Lasted 7-8 years - pretty great!
I purchased about 8 of these back in 2015. About a year ago, after being in use every day, they began cracking. That's a pretty good life for bottles that were being knocked around in a cat rescue for 7-8 years -periodically even getting frozen on my porch. The last one finally cracked today. If they weren't currently unavailable. I'd buy more. I'll put on my wish list and hope they become available again in the future.

Awesome all the way around!
Love the size and sturdiness, I can hold the bottle with one hand and take a drink while driving. Despite negative claims it is most definitely one gallon, I weighed my bottle full of water (to just under the rim) with the bottles actual weight tore of course and got 134oz consistently after multiple tries with 2 different scales. It's durable for my type of usage which is gentle (mainly sitting on a level surface, rarely dropped from anything higher than 3ft), if you plan to use this bottle as a soccer ball, volleyball or throw it off a high rise, house or run it over with a monster truck you might need to look at a different water bottle because I could not vouch for it's durability under that type of usage. I have unintentionally left this bottle in the sun to where the water got warm, I drank from the bottle as it was my only clean water source and the water tasted just as pure as the initial fill up just warm, no chemical or plastic taste at all. I have had no issues with leaking (after 1 week worth of use), if a leak develops my review will be update to reflect that.

Brittle
I purchased 3 of these 2 months ago. We chose these over glass because we thought they'd be less fragile & lighter weight. Bad decision. I left one in my car a few days, then went to fill it & discovered it had an inch long crack in it. It had never even been used. I used the other two regularly for a few weeks. Then my daughter dropped one, full, from about an inch off the ground. The entire top third nearly broke off- a crack had formed all the way around except through the handle. In addition to being fragile, these are very difficult to clean, and the lids tend to go on crooked & leak.Overall, I would not purchase these again & strongly discourage others. What a waste of $$$.

Better than Plain Water!
We used to travel with just plain water, but when you're on a 400 mile drive through the deserts of the American southwest it really doesn't matter how much water you pour over your clothes, dogs, car and self, you're going to be mostly dry within the hour and have to do it all over again! Thank goodness we got these a few years ago. Now we have water whenever we need it and where we need it from the time we leave the house until we reach our destination! What a miracle!(kidding aside, these really are better then reused or even fresh store bought spring water gallons, I'd had so many of those leak it felt like we really were just dumping the water on our clothes instead of packing it up to take with us!)

Not as fragile as you may think
**UPDATED 1/2012 (See bottom)**I felt obligated to review these bottles after seeing so many poor reviews for their durability. I bought 5 of these bottles 2 years ago, and I have 3 left. One broke about six months ago after a 5-foot fall to the floor, and one just broke today after a 4-foot fall to the floor. Reading that might make you question their quality, but let me describe their daily use/abuse:Home use:* From refrigerator to countertop and back, 2-3 times a day, 7 days a week* From house-to-house, on the car floor or in the trunk, once a week* Normal handling bumps and drops from 4-5 inchesOffice use:* Used for a coffee station, refilled 3-4 times a day, 5 days a week* Handled by dozens of different people, some less careful than others (how one got dropped)Pros:* BPA-free, plastic gallon jugs. They are safe, reusable, light weight, and hold a good amount of water (the obvious stuff).* Their shape. They are tall and flat on all sides, so there isn't a bunch of wasted space when you're trying to fit multiple bottles in a refrigerator, cooler, etc.* Wide handle. I can fit all four fingers through the handle comfortably, or I can carry it like a sling with one finger.Cons:* The cap seal can leak, depending on how you handle it. Inside the cap is a little gasket to help prevent leakage. If you don't tighten the cap well enough or you shake the bottles hard enough, you will get some drops. That being said, they never leaked during normal sloshing while riding in the car.* Will not deform. They don't bend and flex like a gallon jug from the grocery store. Hasn't made a difference in my everyday use. After all that, I'm more than satisfied to order new bottles to replace the ones that broke. I give them 4 stars because they can leak under certain conditions, but it's nothing you can't avoid if you're careful. Hope this helps weigh against all the dissenting opinions!UPDATE:The quality of newly produced bottles has decreased since my initial purchase. The newer bottles are indeed thinner and more fragile. I haven't broken one yet, but I never like it when a company responds to quality concerns by making them worse. I've downgraded from 4 stars to 3 stars, since there's really not an adequate substitute on the market.

good water jug
We have bought several of these in the past, this latest one had a foam insert in the lid instead of the rubber seal that was in the others. Wished they would go back to the rubber seal as this one leaks if you grab it out of the fridge and don't keep it completely upright when full. Overall no smell or issues with the plastic and appears to be durable as the rest. Just the lid seal issue is what kept this from being 5 stars.
