This is my 4th activity tracker and I think I finally found the ONE with my Ray!!!
Fitbit, Jawbone, Polar, Nike, they have all released some form of fitness tracker but they were all so plastic looking, most of them were only splash proof and you had to charge them every few days or they stopped doing their job... you know, tracking your activity! So here are a few of the fitness trackers I have had over the years. I really love the concept of a wearable tech BTW.I started my journey of wearable tech with a Polar Watch & chest strap. The watch I had (10 years ago) was cute with it's green band and it would track my calories burned while exercising. This wasn't something that tracked my activity throughout the day but it was my first piece of wearable tech so I figured I should include it. This watch also had a breathing exercise thing where it rated your overall health based on a number of metrics. Unfortunately, the silicone band caused irritation on my wrist when I would sweat during workouts and I wasn't able to get a different band for it.When I entered the market for a Fitness Tracker I got a Polar Loop, one of the few waterproof fitness trackers on the market at the time. I wanted something to track my activity all day, how many steps / how active I was / how much I sleep. I chose the Loop because Fitbits were not waterproof and I was worried that it would get wet when I was washing my hands or something. The tracking was cool with the Loop and I liked the bar that filled up as you got closer to your goal each day. Once you hit your goal you got monotone fireworks on the screen. Eventually, I forgot to charge it and it died while I was traveling for work. Since I didn't have the fancy charging cable with me, it ended up in my suitcase and then a drawer someplace never to be used again. The Loop was neat as far as tech goes but charging it all the time was a pain.Next, came the Leaf by Bellabeat. This one housed a watch battery so it would last 6 months without charging and it was PRETTY! It actually looked more like jewelry than a traditional fitness tracker so I was really excited. I was nervous about it not being waterproof but I figured it must be at least splash resistant. Out of the box, the bracelet that came with it was confusing to put on and only came in what I would call child size so I was never able to wear it on my wrist. It also came with a necklace or you could clip it to your shirt so I wore it as a necklace most of the time. The Leaf tracking wasn't very accurate. Since it was only splashproof, you couldn't wear it in the shower. If you got it wet you would void your warranty and it was a goner, which I learned the hard way. My husband was goofing around in the driveway washing the cars and sprayed me (and my Leaf) with the hose. It stopped working and never came back to life. I had been wearing it for about 4-5 months at that point.I knew that if I ever invested in another fitness tracker, it NEEDED to be waterproof!I recently came across the Misfit products. They are waterproof to 50 meters, extremely accurate according to the tech blogs, and use watch batteries so they don't need to be charged all the time.. At first I was going to get the Shine but everywhere I looked people were talking about how it had this strong magnet in it that caused it to come out of the band. Being round, in a stretchy silicone band... this sounded like a design flaw. That being said, the Shine came in a bunch of colors and was much prettier than the other activity trackers on the market. I debated getting a Shine and then I came across the Misfit Ray... Waterproof to 50 meters, batteries so it lasts about 6 months before you need to replace them, better design shape than the Shine so that it doesn't pop out of the band, and it's pretty! I was sold and ordered the Rose Gold one! Installing the batteries is super easy and so far it's been awesome! There are lots of accessories coming out for it to be a necklace or to add a leather strap (I got the sport band). The app is pretty easy to use and it will even sync with Google Fit on your phone if you want it to. I have to say I'm impressed so far. IDK what the deal is with all of these bad reviews. This thing is great! It even tells me when I get a call / text by vibrating.

Very disappointing - poor sleep tracking, limited sync & app
Looks good - until you scratch it - and it's very comfortable. After less than a week I scratched it and it no longer looks as good. Something you're supposed to wear all the time shouldn't be so easily damaged. I'm not a hard laborer. The sleep tracking is not great. Not only can it not distinguish between being awake (reading or just not able to sleep) in bed and sleeping, but it considers my nightly trips to the bathroom as sleep. The editing feature for sleep should allow for checks on the accuracy of sleep tracking, but it allows for only one sleep period a night. So if you're awake for a couple hours in the middle of the night, you cannot track this. The band does not recognize yoga as an activity - though the phone app will allow you to manually log your yoga time. The software is extremely limited. The Ray does not have a laptop app, only a phone app. The phone app allows you to designate your active times as running, swimming, etc. but it does not have elliptical or hiking options - which are my my most frequent cardio activities. The app does not sync with weight watchers. I'm told it's supposed to sync with myfitnesspal but I have yet to figure that out, given that the instructions ask me to make selections in the app that don't exist. The sync with GoogleFit is very strange, reporting my sleep to GF but not my steps. I feel like I threw away $100. What a disappointment!

Stylish and functional tracker that no one knows about
I've been on the fence about purchasing a fitness tracker for a while now, and did tons of research before making the plunge. Let me give you a sense of what I was looking for in a device, and how that led me to buy a Misfit Ray.- I wanted a device that could track both my steps and my sleep: the Misfit Ray does both really well. The step tracker is on the conservative side of accurate if anything, which it good, because it encourages me to get more exercise in. I was surprised at how well the device tracked my sleep. It correctly identifies any bathroom breaks I take as "awake" and can even tell when I'm tossing and turning in bed. It marks heavy vs light sleep on the app as well. I'm not sure how accurate this is, but I really like seeing how much my sleep breaks down into these categories. I do find that I feel more well rested when the app says I got more heavy sleep, so I think it is fairly accurate.- I wanted something I didn't have to take off to charge: This point goes hand in hand with my above point. I didn't want to do a FitBit device (or any number of Smart watch devices) because they all required (sometimes really complicated) charging routines. The Ray runs on 3 batteries, and they last 4-6 months. The part of the band that opens to let you put the batteries in is easy to access.- I wanted something I wouldn't have to take off period: I wanted to be able to forget about my fitness device! The Ray is waterproof up to 50 m, which means you can wear it in the shower and swimming. This is, of course, unless you have a leather band.- I wanted something cute: honestly, a lot of fitness trackers are super ugly and manly looking. I wanted something that was not an obvious tracker, and that I could wear alongside my watch and other jewelry if I wanted to. The Ray fits the bill. Super slick and feminine looking. Paired with a leather band it is really even more pretty.Ok, now for the other features I wasn't necessarily looking for but which I see as a plus:- Vibrate alarm in the morning- Triple tap function (I set mind to act as a bluetooth controller for my smart lights -- how cool is that?)- App uses point based system and lets you see how much of the moon's circumference you've walked.- Really responsive and helpful customer care! My first Misfit had some technical problems and they replaced it for free and sent me a new one within the week. The new one works great :)My only complaints are that batteries can sometimes get lodged sideways in the battery compartment. Nothing a pair of tweezers can't fix, but a little annoying. Maybe there can be a push up button of some sort in later versions to help alleviate this. Another thing I'd like to see is more stat tracking in the app. I wish that I could summarize my activity over weeks or months, and have this visualized to see how my fitness levels are changing.

Misfit Ray

Very slow
Very often won’t sync with phone and won’t even light up when I tap it. Went over a day with out syncing and had tried multiple times to. Often says battery low to change battery and then an hour later could say 100% battery. Not really worth the price is quite unreliable
