Does the job
I misplaced my dongle during a move, and the only way I could think of to find it was to order a new one.I ordered this new one and it works fine and of course I found the original one as soon as I got this replacement! So now I have two but that’s OK. I can have my DAW on two computers at once now!

Keys to your creative expression
If you know what this is and you don’t have one purchase it. Cubase is absolutely the best DAW in this universe and beyond for the user who knows this workflow. This key is Authentic and the only limitation is in your imagination.

Been a year, still works
This works and is still going strong after year +++. I had to review this for sure.

It works, but wish it wasn't a requirement
Smaller than older models so it's less breakable, but still more breakable than the iLok 3 with its metal body. If you have 3rd party licenses stored on the eLicenser, replacing them may not be as straightforward as it is in the case of iLok. Still rather annoying that these are required for Steinberg and other's software though, when so many others simply link to an account instead; but they do work, and I suppose these are better if your workstation has no internet connection or if you need to use it on multiple workstations since the eLicenser contains the license, so it can simply be plugged into the workstation you'd like to use.All in all, it works and gets the job done well, but I'd like to see a newer revision built as tough as the newer iLok 3, along with the serial number printed on the device where it can be seen.

Great for multiple CPUs!
I bought this to keep registered Steinberg Cubase VST instrument plug-ins on. I have multiple CPUs at different locations and this allows me to use the plug-ins on all CPUs instead of registering them on an individual machine and only having access on one CPU.

A necessary evil
It'd be nice if Cubase didn't need one of these, but I understand it. I made the mistake of buying a non-boxed version of Cubase, so I had to buy an eLicenser separate. It's a good little thing, it's incredibly solid, and it stays about room temperature, despite being in the back of my studio PC 24/7.I have no clue how many licenses will fit on it, since I only have one for Cubase, but I'd imagine the base device can hold quite a few.

The item works fine, but it is the USB key that bothers me.
So I got in 2012 my Cubase Artist software, got some VST's and was ready to roll! But Steinberg... you gotta love them, after spending some dough I realized the learning curve was not going to be easy without audio engineering background. But can Steinberg make it even more complicated? Oh yes! the first issue that I found is that it doesnt work without the USB key plugged. And it is plastic, so if you lose it or you break it, or someone steps in it, you are screwed. (try to carry it plugged in a laptop) where it sticks out all the time. Extremely annoying.Again you may think it is only a USB right? right, but besides the annoyance of the USB sticking out in a macbook:- My keyboard uses 1- My mouse uses 1- The Cubase midi controllers (the supposedly awarded CMC series) use no more noless than one per module, so I have 5 of those little suckers. (5)- On the top, having that annoying key plugged all the time blocking completely another port, plus the hassle of having it stick all the time out in my macbook with the fear of losing it or breaking it (so easy to hit) if you use it plugged. Forget about public places. (1 more port),oh and make sure you give this licenser "maintenance" for which you will need internet available, download always the latest version of the licenser, your VST's codes are in there,...Bottom line, the item by itself works fine but to be able to get my hands in the software and attempt to do anything or past the first screen, I had to have EIGHT USB ports just available for this application. (what about the soundcard, external monitor, other midi devices etc etc.?), did I mentioned that my mac came with TWO? Well done Steinberg, I fell into the Marketing target thing big time, there is nothing intuitive about your stuff, nothing at all!, every single component has been a "troubleshooting" task.
