Jeeves and Wooster Brought to Life Once Again!
I've been a huge fan of P.G. Wodehouse's 'Jeeves' works for many years; both the books as well as the hilarious ITV series starring Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie. Wishing to revisit the books, I've been putting on my headphones at night and 'Jeevesing' it before bed. Funny thing, even though Jonathan Waters doesn't do their voices at all like Hugh Laurie or Stephen Fry, I still picture their faces the entire time I'm listening. I really like his quick, almost frenetic pacing, which suits the Wooster narrative style well. I've read many of the stories before, and listening to them, particularly with Mr Waters' vocal inflections and pacing, made me pick up things I did not notice before...not to mention a few more added laugh-out-loud moments! All in all, a smashing good time, which brought Jeeves back to life once again. If you're a fan of the television series, or of Wodehouse in general, I recommend giving this audio adaptation a go. With the scores of Jeeves stories, which Wodehouse wrote over a period of sixty years, I do hope Mr Waters returns to narrate more.
