Good quality product with a well-designed app
The first thing to note, before you commit to purchasing this bulb, is that this bulb only works if your Wifi is set to 5GHz frequency. (You can check your Wifi frequency by looking at the Wifi settings through a connected device like your phone.) If your Wifi is set to 2.4GHz, this bulb will not connect to your Wifi network, so you would need to be prepared to change your Wifi frequency! If your Wifi settings match, then this is an easy bulb to install. The app is fine to us, perhaps a little too overly complicated, but it also allows you to connect other devices by the same brand all through one app. Once the bulb was connected to my Wifi I was able to connect it through the Google Home app as well, so I can manage my various smart devices in one place. The bulb has a charming retro look, and the bulb can be dimmed, and you can change the warmth from cooler, cleaner white through to warmer, creamier tones. I like the fact I can use it this way, and have it set up in my office to provide some extra light when I am working. Setting up the automatic timer is also really easy, so you can set it to come on when you aren't at home (and, of course, access it from anywhere if you want to switch a light on via the app). This bulb is significantly cheaper than others I have tried and I am impressed with the quality, both of the item itself and the app.

Not all Wiz bulbs are equal
I wanted to use these bulbs for 4 lamps in my conservatory with the intention of using them as a group. I have no issues with the quality of the light, ability to change colour and dimability. Despite having an excellent Wi-Fi signal what was a major issue was the fact that the connection to the wiz app was unpredictable and unreliable and I was constantly having to refresh the app. Using Alexa to switch them on was also equally unpredictable with anything from 2 to 4 of them switching on (and not always the same ones). The 4lite brand is undoubtedly cheaper than Wiz or Philips but I reluctantly resorted to buying the latter to try and resolve the above issues and found that the connection to the app and Alexa was reliable. I do have a tip if you want to use these or any other Wiz bulbs in a group but wish to retain the ability to still turn them off and on individually. Create a group in a room in the Wiz app (in my case I named the room ‘Conservatory Lighting’ , the individual bulbs as ‘Conservatory Lamp 1,2,3 & 4’ and the group ‘Conservatory Lamps’. In the Alexa app I created a room ‘Conservatory’ and put the bulbs in as individual bulbs and also as a group (I also have a pair of Wiz GU10 bulbs which I use as uplighters in the same room which I similarly put in as individual bulbs (conservatory uplighter 1& 2 and their own group (conservatory uplighters). In this way I can turn all lights on by saying ‘Alexa turn on Conservatory lighting’, the two groups independently by saying ‘Alexa turn on Conservatory Lamps’ or ‘Alexa turn on Conservatory Uplighters’ or the individual bulbs by saying ‘Alexa turn on Conservatory Lamp 1’ etc. This level of function cannot be achieved just by using the Wiz app alone (once a group is created you cannot control bulbs within that group independently unless you ungroup them. I appreciate that this is probably unnecessarily nerdy for most people but there is a certain sense of satisfaction and a level of practicality to be had by being able to achieve this. One last piece of advise is to think carefully how you name individual bulbs, groups and rooms (Alexa won’t be able to differentiate ‘All’ from ‘Hall’).

Easy to set up!
Lovely bulb for my bedroom. Has fully customisable temperature and brightness (I wish it was a little brighter) and you can also turn it on and off via the app. It’s a WiFi bulb so you can connect it to your voice assistants at home to control the bulb. You can also switch the colour temperature of the bulb by flicking the switch off and on fast, which is a great feature if you don’t want to use your phone or voice assistant.Overall, set up out of the box was less than 5 minutes, and works great in my bedroom. I wouldn’t use it in a larger room as it wouldn’t light every corner but is sufficient for smaller bedrooms and closets.

EASY app-controlled DIMMABLE lightbulb... it’s great!
I found this to be quite novel: an individual LED light bulb that you can control with an app on your phone. It’s uncomplicated to set up and feels like a really helpful, practical idea that’s potentially also cost-efficient. The bulb is dimmable too so you can control the ambience at any time without having to get up! Pricey (for just the one bulb) but it should last a long time and I think the app control element is a great reason to spend a little more here!
