I bought this to allow driving an HDMI monitor off of my Chromebook and other laptops. It has been tested on the Chromebook only so far. This unit allows me to add an HDMI port, a VGA port, a USB-A port and a power input USB-C port. In my testing I ignored the VGA port. All ports work simultaneously once connected to a USB-C on the Chromebook. The expansion USB-C port only supports supplying power to the Chromebook and USB devices, no USB-C thumb drive was recognized. I was able to utilize full 1980x1024 monitor resolution as an additional monitor (second desktop) even though the Chromebook screen was lower resolution than that. The device is quite small and will travel easily if needed, it also does not require external power to function (operates on USB power only). The unit connects to the source computer via USB-C but somewhat frees up a same port by allowing the USB-C charger to connect to it rather than another port on the source computer. It may be compatible with Macbooks but I cannot verify that. I did not attempt to connect it to a USB-C expansion hub off the source computer. You might be able to hang a USB expansion hub off the USB-A port if you need more ports. If your source computer has at least 2 USB-C ports I can confidently recommend this unit, but you may be very satisfied with this even if you don't have 2 ports. Personally I am fully satisfied with my purchase.

I got this when work insisted I get a new laptop despite my 2nd monitor having only a VGA connector. Pros: It connects just great and I like the extra USB too (since new computers all assume you’re using bluetooth or USB-C, so they only give you 1-2). It’s got a sturdy little rubber-coated cord that’s not too long so it doesn’t get tangled. The actual housing is metal, I believe and nothing jangles around in it. No issues with drivers or adapters, it was just plug and play. VERY reasonably priced considering you get more than just the VGA adapter. Cons: I have USB-C ports on my laptop so this works perfectly, but if you only have USB, you’ll need a second adapter or different altogether. There IS an HDMI port on this as well…however, it doesn’t separate the two monitors if you use the HDMI and VGA simultaneously. If you’re trying to extend displays both through the adapter it doesn’t work. (I just plug my HDMI monitor directly into the laptop and there’s no issue). Overall, totally recommend this for extending the life of a monitor and getting a little more flexibility with connections!

Got this for use when my daughter visits and needs to use her computer as her laptop only has a USB-C port. This device has an HDMI out that will connect to a monitor with an HDMI input. After testing that the HDMI output worked, I also plugged in my phone to charge into both the USB port and also the USB-C port - and both worked fine. While I did not specifically test the VGA port, I have confidence that it will work. The cable from the device to the computer is fairly heavy duty and seems that it will hold up for some time. The device and cable are just over a foot long. The device came with a storage pouch so it stays dust free when not in use. I may not use this myself, or often, but I know it will work and would recommend it.

Tested on my laptop that is running Ubuntu Linux 22.04. It worked without any modification or setting necessary - was pleasantly surprised to see it work even during boot-time, without any need for any drivers/kernel compilation. Perfect product.

Bought this for my laptop, Its a great bit of kit as it allows me to extend my desktop to two screens while providing another USB-A slot for the addition of an external keyboard and mouse. Its the 6th different Benfei cable/accessory I've bought and as always its a quality product. This box became indispensable when my wife when started working on a project with a Macbook pro and needed to use an external monitor and keyboard/mouse. Did the trick, although on a PC, I can use both the VGA and HDMI connection to extend desktops over 2 screens, but the mac only extends to one, although it does duplicate the extended desktop if its connected to a VGA and a HDMI screen. That's not a fault of this box, but more of a MacBook thing as I don't think they can output to two external monitors.
