Afghan friends now are asking for a Dari-based "English as a Second Language" counterpart !!
LIKE !! Close friends from Afghanistan have looked over "Dari As A Second Language", been highly impressed, and now are asking if Syed Naqibullah has done or will consider doing a reverse equivalent that could be called something like "English As A Second Language, for Dari and Farsi Speakers". They were delighted by the thoroughness of "Dari As A Second Language" and now are badgering me to find a reverse equivalent suitable for a newly arrived person with strong high school education in Kabul but so far only limited fluency in English language. So, Sayed Naqibullah and friends, can you offer any suggestions? Tashakor from Seattle !!

Has some mistake and did not use a good grammar.
Dari is my native language, and I bought this book to teach my children. However, it contains numerous mistakes. For example, it uses "was" instead of "was not," among many others, which can be incredibly confusing for someone self-learning from this book. Moreover, it seems that grammar was not a priority when this book was written. Looks like it was written in a hurry.

Excellent for learning Dari
It's helped me so much. I am hosting Afghan refugees and trying to learn Dari as fast as possible. The Dari speakers like it almost as much as I do.

Not for beginners.
This book goes wayyyyyy too fast for beginners. Without someone to help you. You will fail. Don’t bother getting this book unless you have help from a tutor who knows Dari.

Pronunciation a bit hard to guess.
Nice amount of vocab, stories and exercises, but I wish it had an audio CD to go with, so that I could be sure of my pronunciation.

Not for beginners
I am a native Dari speaker and bought this book for my daughter (college student) who wanted to learn the language properly. This book starts ok with some vocabularies, but then it jumps to more complex sentence structures and it assumes that the reader/student already knows the basics. It goes into writing the words and sentences. It’s not a step by step learning tool. It jumps from basics words and it’s phonetics to writing long sentences. My daughter gave up on it after two days. I returned it. If this wasn’t a good learning book for my daughter who speaks broken Dari, I don’t think it’s a good book for a non speaker…

Excellent book
The media could not be loaded. Excellent book but not what expected. Since this book is for kids in abroad. They should have the all farsi translation in english alphabets. Like this they can read the words. Ex ‘ dog ‘ should translate into ‘sag’. Sound should be in english but writing in english.

Pas parfait, mais il m'aide beaucoup
C'est tres difficile a encontrer de bons livres pour les langues laquelles pas beaucoup de gens parlent. Ce livre a une bonne vocabulaire, enseigne un peu de grammaire, et AUSSI enseigne le systeme d'ecriture. Avec les autres que j'ai pu encontrer, je crois que je peux apprendre assez du Dari pour parler avec mes patients.

A bit too technical
Actually there are not too many offers for Dari language books. This one is a bit too technical for me, quite repetitive with the types of exercises. No explanation of grammar. Nevertheless, it is at least focusing on Dari (not Farsi) vocabulary and pronounciation.
