The series did well to allude to and describe Tobias' relationship whit his father. However, it was wonderful to really understand him through his point of view. It really shows how the little things like the blue sculpture was a such a rebellious act of both Four and his mother. I read this after I read the series. I think it would be better to read near book one because, as a reader, I already know more than Four by this point. The Initiate: I continue to enjoy Four's story as he learns to hide part of who he is and becomes Dauntless. I recommend reading this after Divergent. Once again, I know a lot more than Four. I like how this story reveals how Tobias changed. It even hints to the back tattoo that he has in the series. Of course, you have to read it to catch the clues in here. It wouldn't hurt to read this first, but it would take away from Tris' story. This is the first real appearance of some of the faults in the system. It is also the first major sign of divergence, yet to be names. The Son: Four's past continues to show signs of whom he chooses to become. This story is where he is pulled in two new directions, he already refused his father's way in a The Initiate. He remains a rebel by choosing his own place within, yet out of, the Dauntless faction. He teeters between his his old faction and new faction as he realizes he doesn't want to be classified only as one. This is symbolized as he begins to get his tattoo that could classify him as a "faction traitor" or even, Tori named it, a Divergent. Those who are aware during simulations and "refuse" to take one faction. I enjoyed this story as it brings us closer to the days of Divergent and revelations are made. This story continues to give insight to Four's character and his actions within the trilogy. The Traitor: This conclusion of the Four short stories really walk the reader through some of the same stolen moments with Tris from Divergent. However, it is from Four's point of view. It reveals how Four came to rescue Tris while she was being attacked and his view of both their fear landscapes. It also reveals how Four found out about the attack prior to it happening and how he could not count on the factionless/his mom for support, while his father did not even believe the attack was going to happen although he was suspicious if Max. I really enjoyed reading Four's perspective of some of the more emotional interactions between him and Tris. I suggest that you read Free Four before reading this because that was also a scene from Divergent in Four's pov, but it takes place before the events in this text. This story focuses on Tobias truly becoming brave as he watched the strength and courage of Tris Review: Great Book To Add To Your Collection! - Where to start? Okay, if you know of my obsession with the Divergent Trilogy, then you know that I couldn’t resist this book. I remember reading Divergent when it first released years ago while I was on a road trip to Texas and Arkansas. I could not put the book down to save my life, not even to take over driving for my husband. I love Four and Tris as a couple and as individuals. We all got to know Tris while reading the other books, and a little bit of Four’s voice in Allegiant. It was so nice getting back into his head again and learning more of his character. It was worth the wait, and so much better than Free Four. From his initiation into Dauntless, to his view on Tris, I couldn’t get enough of him. He is a strong and admirable character, and you can’t help but love him. My heart broke for him on certain memories, which we already kind of knew from his fear landscape in Divergent. I hate Marcus with a passion. No parent should ever have their child fear them, let alone a father with a son. Sons are supposed to idolize their fathers, Marcus made his son fear him. God, that really tore at my heart strings. I kind of respect his mother a little now since I’ve read The Son. Just a little, because I still think that a mother’s love for her child will make her go ape sh** on anyone who tried to harm them. Now I get why she entered the picture in Insurgent, and I can be a little nice about the whole situation. This part of the book was probably my favorite, along with The Traitor. To read more of Four’s POV from Divergent was so worth it. I think this is the part that die hard fans will like the most. He has some nice thoughts about Tris and when you read the scenes that were from Tris’s POV in Divergent, it’s like a new story. Seriously!! If you are a fan of the Trilogy, then this is a great addition to add to your shelf. I quite enjoyed getting back inside Four’s head, and while some parts are what we already knew, there are equal parts that are new. So grab the book if you haven’t already. A great read!!

There are four short main stories; The Transfer, The Initiate, The Son and The Traitor in this book which run just before Divergent and alongside Divergent told from Four's point of view so if you are wondering when you can read these stories without ruining the main trilogy of books for yourself then you will be fine to read this book once you have finished reading Divergent. There are also three very short stories at the end of this book too; "First Jumper - Tris!", "Careful Tris" and "You Look Good, Tris" which are a few pages long each but are a nice addition to the book and again we get to see Four's point of view in a few of the parts from Divergent. I would have preferred to have read this book straight after Divergent if I had known it could be read then but I didn't and read this after the final book Allegiant. I would definitely recommend reading it earlier as it does add to the content of Divergent and I was a bit disappointed with the ending of Allegiant so I feel the shine was taken off this set of mini stories for me by the time I read it but I love the character Four and these stories are really interesting to read. The Transfer tells the story of Four's own decision to leave Abnegation and you will already know the reasons why if you have read Divergent but it is really interesting to see how it all actually played out for Four and get a more in depth insight into what his life was like before Dauntless along with his own thoughts and feelings. We also meet Amar and learn how Four was given the name Four by him. A good short story and a nice insight in Four's life before Dauntless and Tris. The Initiate tells the story of Four's own initiation into Dauntless and how the initiation process was before it was changed when Tris joins Dauntless later on. I loved where Four plays Dare and becomes friends with Zeke and Shauna along with Amar. We also meet a bit more of Lauren who is the Dauntless born trainer when Four is the transfer trainer later on. The rivalry between Eric and Four is also explored a lot more and we find out why. We also learn of the circumstances surrounding Amar's death and how Four narrowly escaped the same fate. A really good short story which I really enjoyed and revealed more information about parts I already knew along with others I didn't. A really good read for fans of the Divergent series. The Son tells how Four discovered his mother wasn't dead and how he was lied to by his Father and the Abnegation about her. It also tells how Max originally wanted him for Eric's job and how Janine already had her claws into the Dauntless at that point. We read how Four starts to investigate what is going on between Max and Janine and how the Dauntless initiation process is changed from her inside mole Eric which later affects Tris' own initiation. We also hear how Four gets his tattoo with the different factions symbols on him. A really good insight into the Erudite interventions in Dauntless and how the pieces of the puzzle started to click together for Four along with his thoughts and feelings on discovering his mother is actually alive. The Traitor gives Four's side of the visiting day meeting with Tris and her Mum and also shows him further investigating Max and Janine's involvement together. It tells how much Four actually helped Tris along with her initiation and how he protected her from being discovered as being a Divergent. It also tells how he continued to try to have the initiation reversed to the old ways before Eric's 'amazing' idea of only letting the top 10 initiates remain and how he tried to warn Abnegation of the attack to come along with his mother who both chose to ignore the information. We also see Tris' rescue from the Chasm from Four's point of view and have an inside sight into his developing feelings for her. I really enjoyed this story and yes I already knew pretty much all of it but again to have everything from Four's point of view was such a good read and very insightful. A really good compilation of short stories which may be re-telling a lot of information already known from reading Divergent but are definitely worth a read to get Four's perspective on things along with additional parts that enhance the main trilogy. A definite must read for fans of the Divergent series.

First thanks to Amazon for sending two bookmarks along with the book. And the packaging was great. Now about the book. I read the Divergent trilogy and I must say that the first book was superbly written, the reason I fall in love with Veronica Roth. But Insurgent and Allegiant ruined my expectations. But Four is again superbly written, the Four's POV was touching. Loved the world building and I would say it's the best book in the series.

I loved it and I wish the book was longer! I am so sad I am done with it…I have to admit that I was a bit reluctant about buying the book since I was so disappointed about the trilogy ending... However, I enjoyed reading about how Four made it to Dauntless and all his story!! I totally recommend reading it!!
