festive treat! letter needs updating
Comes in a decorative tin with images referencing the jade rabbit. Comes with 4 individually wrapped cakes of various flavors, some plastic cutlery, and a letter explaining the history of the cakes amid the Mid-Autumn Festival. The cakes themselves aren't what westerners would call "cake". They're like very dense, heavy pie filling in a thin pastry shell. Red bean is my favorite, sweet and rich. I couldn't tell the others apart, except that one has a dry, salty egg yolk in the center. I think this box is suitable as a gift for anyone who might be interested, or for seasonal self-indulgence. My only real complaint is that the letter about the history of the event says "this year Mid-Autumn Festival falls on 1st October." In 2022, the year I purchased this, the event falls on Sept 10. It was on Oct 1 in 2020. The expiration date of the box is Jan 2023, and the pastries tasted fine -- but it's concerning for the product to reference the holiday 2 years ago (and potentially detracts from gift potential - a recipient might think "ugh, this person re-gifted cakes from 2020!"). I think most likely the manufacturer just never revisited what the letter says.

LOVE THEM DELICIOUS GOODNESS
Get them they are good. My favorite is the Chestnut... I wish they sold just the Chestnut one by themselves. The rest are good too but I cant say or get enough of the Chestnut... Amazingly delishhhhh...ordering more.Edit update: I came back to buy more to my surprises the price jumped $19.99 to 45 bucks.. I know inflation is causing prices to go up, but this is price gouching very dissapointing. Way to ruin a good thing :(

Beautiful metal tin, chestnut was 100%
The tin is beautiful. Comes with a letter about the Mid Autumn Festival. My kids and I did not enjoy the red bean paste one, but the chestnut was sooo good. If I ranked them it would be 1. Chestnut, 2. Sesame, 3. Lotus, 4. Red bean. We didn't care for the salted egg yolk, but probably just because we're not used to it. It was very flavorful.

Best, most convenient mooncake connection.
I've tried several online mooncake bakers over the years and Onetang is the most like the fresh ones I used to get in Taipei and in NYC's Chinatown each fall. I preorder the variety tin of 4 and enjoy them with friends over a pot of DongDing Oolong tea, Taiwan's superb tea. Another bakery on Amazon (in San Fran) accepted my PO Box address in checkout but shipped UPS Ground even after I called to confirm proper shipping! So no delivery, just credit for lost package, and they were $$$$. Onetang has shipped accurately and faster than indicated. Onetang will be my mooncake baker every autumn!

Good flavors, but cheap fillers are used.
A friend of mine who is Vietnamese-American got me curious about these, and he encouraged me to grab some. So, I saw this set that had multiple flavors and thought it would be the best experience.WARNING: I am white and had never had mooncakes, so I have no idea how these were supposed to taste. I am merely judging them subjectively.1) Black sesame was very good, with rich black sesame flavor and the black sesame seed flavor highlighted the brown sugar flavor in the mooncake's crust. What I didn't like was the large amount of oil and flour roux that was used with the black sesame filling. I wish there had been more sesame seeds given that it was $15 for four mooncakes.2) Chestnut was fantastic, the taste reminded me a lot of sweet potatoes. This was by far the sweetest mooncake in the bunch, and had about the silkiest filling. The chestnut filling seemed to have the same brown sugary flavor the crust did. This was one of the best.3) Red bean was the most mediocre red bean paste thing I have ever tasted. The whole beans in it were gritty and the bean paste was adulterated with flour and oil roux, which seems unnecessary given how inexpensive red beans are. Disappointing from my perspective.4) Lotus seed paste is a taste I am not used to, though I think I really like it. The salted egg yolk is absolutely stunning and when mixed with lotus seed paste is a wonderful sweet and salty, rich and eggy flavor. The only complaint i'd have here, is a lot of oil is mixed into the lotus seed paste. I did my research and I know this is necessary to make the lotus seed paste so I am not commentating negatively on another culture's foodways here, just saying I dislike it personally. All in all I loved these mooncakes, they were all just a bit full of that "vegetable oil taste". I think if I buy more in the future, I am going to grab some that state they are lower in oils and fats.

Disappointing fillers dilute consistency
It’s possible that these follow a Cantonese tradition is different than the moon cakes I love? These had fillings that seemed about half oil and flour/half lotus paste, etc. Soft and unlike the rich, dense fillings I am used to. They were also about half the size/weight of KeeWah and OneTang moon cakes. I bought because prices of brands I knew have risen so high, but unfortunately I feel like the lower price did bring me a lower quality mooncake- just guessing, but it seemed to use only 1/3 as much lotus seed paste in smaller moon cakes that diluted the paste with fillers. Feeling disappointed. Next time I will stick with a tried and true brand. Your feelings, taste, and traditions may be different!

Pretty good value!
I was skeptical due to how cheap these were but the cakes were fine. So far I tried the lotus paste, sesame and chestnut (not a big fan) and they tasted like your typical mooncakes. I took off a star because the lotus mooncake didnt have a salted yolk inside (which should have been there according to the nutrition on the back)Overall I'm still happy with my purchase. The tin also comes with a cute bookmark and a plastic knife/4 tiny forks so you can share these with friends and family.Edit: wait a minute! The last mooncake had a salted egg yolk in it. I guess I was missing the red bean mooncake and ended up getting an extra lotus seed paste.

My first time trying mooncakes
The lotus paste with egg yolk was the best flavor. The chestnut flavor was kind of peanutty. I guess I expected them to be sweeter with a crumbly crust, but the subtle flavors are probably more authentic than a dessert type of cake.I like the metal box they come in.The price seems kind of high for 4 cupcake-sized pastries, but I think that prices is comparable to other mooncakes I've seen on here. I think it was a nice experience overall.
