not really - it's a skin protectant - heals diaper rashes sort of thing

Q: What comprises the "suitable ointment base" in the ingredients?

I believe that when it says that the ingredients are in a "suitable ointment base" it refers to the ointment's ability to absorb water. In this product , the base contains lanolin which absorbs water and keeps the skin from drying out and the glycerin is water soluble so it is easy to remove with water. I have found that you do not need a thick layer of calmoseptine ointment to efficiently cover the affected area, it goes on very smoothly and because of the zinc oxide in it, it really does clear up rashes within 3-4 days. I do not know how well it will work on deep bedsores as my mother only had the redness and beginning of sores. We use it after every change to prevent the recurrence of rash and are very happy with the results. This ointment was recommended to us by a visiting nurse.
