Clean Sound
I purchased this amp to replace my factory bose system in my Mercedes C32. I also purchased a JVC Kx_740 Double Din DVD player which works very well with this amp. I had to put a Y splitter on the single RCA sub output wire in order to feed both the left and right sub input channel going into this amp. This amp does heat up some over time, however, mounted on the back of the rear seat in the car, I would expect some heat as the trunk does not have any circulation. The sound quality is very clean, powerful enough to power 4 component level MB Quartz speakers which sound really crisp and the sound stage is awesome. I have blown two of MB Quartz speakers (1 6.5" and 1 1" tweeter in the front). I know that it was the lack of quality of the speakers and not the amp. This amp has separate cross overs for each channel (front, rear and sub) so that you can get the optimal sound that you desire. Also, separate gain controls allow you to turn tune your amp just below the point in which you begin to hear distortion. No engine whine was heard using this amp after installation which I was happy to hear. My friends are all impressed with this amp. Make sure that you use a heavy gauge positive cable with an inline fuse and negative ground cable when installing. The sound gets really loud in the car and still clean. You can hear the sound outside the car, but only two car lengths or so. If you want to be hear wayyyy down the street, I would opt for a higher power amp. If want to fill the inside of your car with clean, crisp power, then this is definitely the amp for you.

Great Amp for the price
A really nice 5 channel amp to drive a simple system; Front, Rear and Sub. This is not the most powerful of amps but gives a good thump within the vehicle. The amp is a bit long and will not easily fit under the front seats so I mounted mine behind the rear seat of my double cab. The amp does not generate a lot of heat once you have the minimum spacing required and it does need to be firmly bolted down or else it weight might pop off small holding down screws once the vehicle is in motion. Great amp for the investment, so much better than hearing the factory head unit.

Headache
I bought this amp in August of 2011. I am not a professional, but this amp did absolutely nothing to encourage a beginner. From the start I had a hard time getting it to work. I couldn't produce sound until I switched all of the positive wires with the negative ones (I was using high level inputs) I rechecked all of my wires and decided something on the motherboard must be bad, but oh well, I was finally getting sound. It was good and loud, but no matter what I did I got a lot of whine. Months later I converted to RCA cables and ran them through an extra noise filter and the whine was gone, unfortunately now I have a shorted output transistor. I should have realized I had a bad amp in the beginning but made excuses for it since it was my first time. Now that I have taken my Mini Cooper apart and put it back together several times trying to see if I messed up I can safely say it was the amp every single time. Wasn't work it for the short two month spurts of enjoyable sound. Customer service wasn't great either and I'm not expecting much since my amp blew at 14 months instead of 12 but I will update this review if they surprise me. I may have gotten an isolated case but I'll never know because I won't be buying soundstream again. It's kind of big and bulky anyway.

not bad
bought this because my rockford p400-4 died. The rockford sounded better but this soundstream does the job. I recommend sticking with the main name brands. also this thing is HUGE for the power output their are many amps smaller with better watts.

Stunning value
Their are mixed reviews on the Rubicon 5.8 but I needed a 5 channel amp to replace my factory Logic 7 amp in my BMW and this one was on special. The Soundstream amp fit nicely under the trunk cover and sounds insane on the stock 10 speaker system (BMW's best). The stock 8" (2 of them) woofers HAMMER off the soundstream and the stock highs and mids sing when set at 100hz and up. It took some time to tune but their is NO engine noise or turn on pop and the detail is insane. To buy this amp at $180 from Amazon is the deal of the century. Their isn't an amp out there you can buy for under $200 that can compete. This amp is worth every bit its $400 retail. My ONLY complaint would be the detail adjustments on the adjustment knobs aren't very useful AND the detail picture from Amazon shows a separate bass adjustment knob that isnt used on the 5.8. I didnt need the knob so no big deal but they shouldn't show it in the pic.If you want a sound quality amp with full system capability the Rubicon 5.8 a must.

very nice product for the money
Very nice product for the money: After 16 years my original granite Soundstream amp finally died. So shopping aound for another USA made amp left me with no choices. So I did the next best thing, researched and checked out what was out there and low and behold everything was made in China, whether it cost 99$ or 999$ so the decision was made to stick with a brand that had been so good for so long. When I received the unit I impressed by the looks but at closer inspection one notices the difference between the Granite, super quality, and the Rubicon ok quality. The connectors to the amp feel cheap, the inserts are plastic not metal as the Granite and the overall feel is not the same. Also the sound quality, although loud it can't be compared , more distortion. Having said all this, for the money around 200$ its a killer deal. Had I had the chooice I would have rather invested the 200 in repairing the Granite but, as the only thing from Soundstream that remains in the US are their offices that do not even answer their customers I gave in and bought the Rubicon. I do not expect the amp to last 16 years as very few chinese products last. At least it was cheap.
