While the description of the chalkboard is accurate, the photo is misleading, and in fact a photo not of this size chalkboard but instead of its smallest version. This means the oak frame is much narrower than one might assume from looking at this photo, approximately a 1" wide border. Also, for clarity, this board has no chalk ledge at all (the photo led me to believe it might). Other than this issue with the photo, the chalkboard is as expected from the descriptions: relatively good quality; there was a strong (varnish?) odor initially. My preschool age children have already left a very noticable scratch in the surface, probably from a rough edge on the wood handle of our eraser. The chalkboard was packaged the same was others described but labeled fragile in four places and arrived in good condition.

I bought 2 of these boards. When I first received the item one of the board's had a cracked and broken edge rendering it useless. I contacted the company that sent them and they had sent me another one right away without paying any extra shipping fee's or shipping fee's to send the board back to them. Very happy with the customer service. The boards itself are not extravagant...but the best bang for the buck. I would recommend if you do not want to pay $400+ for something that does the same job.

This is a great value for the size. Mine arrived on time and without damage. I took other reviewers' advice and 'seasoned' the chalkboard first, which seemed to work very well. I would like to have seen mounting mechanisms that would have allowed me to hang in either direction- horizontal or vertical- but it arrived with mounts that were ready for horizontal hanging only. I had to nail in mounts on my own to allow it to be hung vertically.

This was the perfect purchase for our kids to use. As other reviewers have mentioned, "curing" the chalkboard ahead of time was necessary, but that didn't take long and has yielded great results! At some points the wooden frame appeared not to be attached super securely to the board itself, but upon closer inspection, none of those places made a difference in the integrity of the frame to hold the board onto the wall (i.e. if you lifted by the top of the frame in the middle, there was some give, but as the hooks are on the side-pieces of the frame, the top middle isn't bearing any of the weight of the board).

The board is nice, doesn't ghost and erases cleanly. However, the packaging really was lacking. My board has a crack in it, too small to be a big deal, but still it's there. I don't want to go through the hassle of returning it so I'll keep it. The packaging was flimsy. If Aarco put just a bit more effort in their shipping it would've been fine. Wouldn't bother me so much if shipping was a standard $4, but they charged extra. Beware if you buy, the board's price is great, but they may destroy it in shipping.

I purchased this board to use as an interchangable decoration in my living room. The first one sent out had a huge hole in the upper right hand corner. Luckily, customer service was awesome and got another one out to me right away. I really like this board. It is easy to clean and really serves its purpose as an adorable focal pointe. The reason I dont love the board, is because the frame could use something a little more substantial than what it comes with (simple woodgrain) For the price, im satisfied.

This is a good sized board. We use it for homeschool. I found this was the largest size I could get before the prices seemed to sky rocket. Writes well and we use it daily. We had a white board and decided to switch to chalk because our kids kept writing on the wall. Much easier to remove chalk from a wall than dry erase marker (still on the wall actually). We use sidewalk chalk on the board because it doesn't break as easy as the little sticks. This board does not have a chalk tray. Our family hung a basket next to the board to hold the chalk. I would recommend this for others.

So far, I have only written on this board with chalk markers (by colore) and you should be aware that these pens DO NOT ERASE FROM THIS BOARD. Use chalk only. I'm now stuck with a board that has chalk pen on it. Needless to say, I'm not pleased.
