Parker 99R Shave Set - Includes Parker 99R Double Edge Butterfly Safety Razor, Black Badger Brush, Stainless Steel Shave Stand & 5 Blades

I've been using this product for a while now and I must say that it's a very good safety razor and the brush is fantastic. The stand is good too, I suppose. I like the fact that it's very sturdy and well balanced in my hand. It feels like great quality and it shaves extremely close, a lot better than any other disposable razor (Harry's, Gillette, Schick, etc.) and the other safety razors out there like Van der Hagen and some other piece of crap safety razor that my cheap brother gave me that I finally threw away because it kept cutting the hell out of me. But that's another story. That said, this is a quite a bit expensive for a razor. I mean, all it does is hold a blade while you do all the work. But I have to say, I think it's worth it. It's not a chinese piece of crap. This is good craftmanship and it's made in the USA. Parker seems to be a good shaving company.

The set is outstanding-all of the pieces are very well made and solid in construction. The razor feels very comfortable in the hand and shaves quite smoothly, while the stand is extremely stable-can't even get it to rock it testing it's stability. The only thing I didn't like was the brush. There was nothing necessarily wrong with it, it's very well made, and looks great, but it is VERY heavy in the handle. So heavy that when trying to stand the brush up in a bowl to soak prior to use, it keeps falling over and spilling the bowl over too.

Received everything as depicted in the photos as described. The badger brush has a huge splay and mild backbone right out of the box. After a few uses this brush is very soft. There are a lot of straggly hairs that I am tempted to trim ( as of yet I have not) that come out from the handle. The brush had these from day 1.The handle looks nice and the overall look of all 3 items on my counter look nice. The razor is where this review lost some stars. The exposed blade profile is not the same on both sides. No matter how you line up the blade in the head when you tighten down the butterfly mechanism it causes the blade to flex and it moves slightly. The head of the razor I received looks good the plating is shiny and consistent, however when you look closely the metal is not straight and bevels slightly in an inconsistent manner at the bottom where the blade protrudes. I think this is a casting defect. It's slight but when you put a blade in you can notice it. I don't know if it has an effect on overall shave quality. Two characteristics I'm about to discuss will. The head of the razor or top cap as I've heard it referred to, is high requiring a higher angle to allow the blade to contact the skin properly. The final characteristic is the weight this sucker is heavy compared to vintage Gillettes or The Edwin Jagger de89 which I have used. The razor is not my fav, but what everyone has different likes when it comes to this topic. Overall I like this set if you are new to wet shaving and the de razor thing, this will be a great way to start.

Got here yesterday, used it today. The brush bristles themselves are great. Pretty soft out of the box and gives a good lather. The stand has a good weight to it and the razor and brush fit perfectly. Wasn't super impressed with the Parker blades that came with it but I was so eager to use the set that I couldn't wait til Friday for Amazon to get my Merkur blades here. The weight, angle and length of the 99R are all great.Minus one star for the brush handle as it doesn't look as good in person as it did on the site. It might just be me but it looks pretty plasticy and kind of cheap. Also, there were some minor abrasions on the handle of the razor like it had slipped in the finishing process. Not really worth returning it over but they are noticeable. Value wise, if you buy these pieces individually you're spending a lot more than $75 so go for it, you won't be disappointed.

I have using a double edge razor for about 5 years now. This Parker is amazing! This razor has a premium feel. I used the Parker razors that came with it. Best shave ever! Hot towel, pre shave and lather with Proraso products.

Some reviewers complained that the knob on the bottom is smooth and difficult to grip with wet, soapy hands. I have had a razor with a knurled knob and I was always accidentally opening the razor head slightly while shaving. If the head is not firmly closed, the blade inside it can wobble during use and cut you. It happened to me enough that I went shopping for a razor with a smooth knob like this one. Also, after trying several razors I found this one and this is the very last razor I will ever buy.

The Parker 99 is a great razor. I am new to DE razors, and this is a great purchase for a starter kit. I still think my brush needed to break in. i am about 4 shaves in and the brush is a little stiff in the middle.

What a set. I owned the razor before, but it had shown some wear over the years, so I decided to buy a new one. This set is a steal. The brush is fantastic and works up a great lather, and the stand is sturdy and heavy without taking up too much space. Very classy set, and the best shave I've ever had.
