The Very Best of Roger Whittaker

This is the BEST one of them all
I learned to love Roger Wittaker’s voice and his arrangements of the songs he sings decades ago. I even took my Dad (who I believe introduced me to him) to see him live. Roger was on stage, sitting in a chair and said “Who the hell is Roger Wittaker?”This CD has all the great songs and a few more that I was unfamiliar with, but really like and a couple that, not so much. I give it 4 stars for content and clarity, but the recordings are boot exactly the same as I remember from the old LP’s. They are good, but ever so slightly faster and not as deep and rich. I would add that they are probably the same recordings except the mastering and format is different, which means if you have pitch control and an equalizer, you can get around it and enhance it to taste.

A GREAT CD!
This is the first album I've ever had by Roger Whittaker and I'm so happy that I decided to get this CD of these original recordings. These are not remakes, and the songs sound good but not as if they were digitally remastered. Hopefully some day they will do digital remastering from the original master tapes.Roger has a mellow laid back style and this CD has his old favorites like 'Durham Town', 'The Last Farewell', 'New World In The Morning' and 'Streets Of London'. It is so great to hear these again after many years. He also does nice renditions of songs made popular by others that are also great to hear again, like:'A Taste Of Honey' - The Beatles'He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother' - The Hollies'Good Morning Starshine' - Oliver, from the play 'Hair''By The Time I Get To Phoenix' - Glen Campbell'From Both Sides Now' - Joni MitchellAll songs are nicely done and the sound quality of this CD is good. These will bring back many memories for a lot of people, and I highly recommend this CD for anyone who enjoys this type of music.

Delightful Album!
I recently purchased this Wonderful Album ”The Very Best of Roger Whittaker” (Import) on CD, ..and I am very pleased with it!I bought this CD.. because I have been searching (seemingly for a while now) for several of Mr. Whittaker's earlier recordings of his music. And this Album includes many of the songs on it that have been hoping to find! The sound quality of the tracks is Excellent. And the songs found here, do indeed seem to be the original recordings.. so I am incredibly Happy! It is really nice to have finally have several of the older recordings which Mr. Whittaker made years ago. Delightful versions of his songs.. which do not appear to be available for digital download anywhere!I think perhaps my favorite song from this Album would be the track ”From Both Sides Now".. but then honestly all of the songs here are Fantastic!

This is excellent. My Grandfather loved listening to Roger Whittaker
This is excellent. My Grandfather loved listening to Roger Whittaker. Loved listening to "The Ladt Farewell." We used that song for a video memory collage when he passed away. And because of him, my Mother would play his music at home. So for me this CD has some great nostalgia memories. When things went from cassettes to cds, he was a bit hard to find. My mother found a greatest hits album which was great and all. But some of his old songs were rerecorded. Nothing wrong with that but something about original recordings that give a certain personal meaning. I'm excited to find some of his original recordings like, THE LAST FAREWELL, NEW WORLD IN THE MORNING, and DURHAM TOWN. all on this CD. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. :)

Purchased for my Dad
This is one of my Dad's favorite singers. He had the cassette years ago, so I replaced it with the CD. He enjoys these songs very much.

Bought it for my elderly mom
My elderly mom loves this CD. You should buy one for your elderly mom, dad, aunt, uncle, grandparent, or your elderly-self. I mean, who over 80 doesn't love Roger Whittaker? "For you are beautiful, and I have loved you dearly, more dearly than a written review could tell...."

great songs
This is a great compilation album featuring 18 tracks from Roger Whittaker. It's a 'best of' album, and the songs reflect Whittaker's musical output across his career - from the 1960's to the 1990's. He's a unique talent - as both singer and songwriter. He's rather diverse - able to create entertaining, lively and fun songs, as well as deeply moving and poignant music. This album has the following tracks: Durham Town; The Last Farewell; Morning Has Broken; Mamy Blue; The Skye Boat Song; Morning Please Don't Come; Quel Monde Merveilleux (What A Wonderful World); He Ain't Heavy...He's My Brother; New World In The Morning; I Don't Believe In If Anymore; Streets Of London; Mexican Whistler; Dirty Old Town; A Taste Of Honey; Good Morning Starshine; By The Time I Get To Phoenix; From Both Sides Now; and, Why.This is a superb set of songs - and I fully recommend this album.

Just what I did and didn't expect
I think we all know the tunes and lyrics from the likes of Durham Town etc and that was what I expected. A trip down memory lane and some very familiar songs.I have a really good Naim and Harbeth system and what I didn't expect was to find out just how well these tunes had been recorded . What I listened to on say a Sunday afternoon when Roger was on the TV and on the radio became seriously good on an audiophile system. Something that cannot be said of artists like John Denver

Beautiful album
This album can really be summed up in one word; joyous! I bought this really for The Last Farewell which I rediscovered down my local pub one night when the jukebox decided to play it as a pre-programmed track. I remembered it from years back and then discovered it again on You Tube and decided to get the album. Roger's voice is very soothing, he may not be the greatest singer ever but he draws you in and you do end up feeling thoroughly relaxed after listening to this album. Wonderful songs, my personal favourites are (obviously) The Last Farewell, A New World In the Morning and a marvellous version of What A wonderful World sung in French; I defy anyone to listen to that without a big smile on their face. Lovely album by a very talented and criminally underrated artist.

Not a taste of honey; better and very highly crafted.
In replenishing some of my old stock of music, I discovered I'd completely forgotten Roger Whittaker. What a joy! For those who think the sixties held a seam of gold in finely crafted lyrics and tunes, then this is a must-have compilation. The astonishing thing is that the recordings are of the very highest quality and RW's voice is like polished walnut/oak. No veneer here.
