The pearls have variable uniformity and good luster, each measuring 9-10 millimeters wide. Freshwater Cultured Pearls All pearls begin as sand on the skin of an oyster, and grow in layers of calcium to round or baroque shapes. While many pearls grow naturally, the large demand for pearls outpaces natural growth, and pearls can be cultured by hosting farms of oysters and inserting grains of sand into their shells. It can take up to 2 years for the pearls to grow to full size. While there is very little difference in quality between pearls grown in freshwater versus saltwater, saltwater pearls are more rare and therefore command higher prices. Individuality Pearls grow much like people, with individual shape and character to each one. The method of growth of nacre, layer after layer of calcium, causes differences in every aspect of the pearl. The size of the pearl is affected by the length of time the nacre is allowed to grow. The shape of the pearl is affected by how the oyster rubs against the grain - rubbing evenly will produce a perfectly round pearl, while uneven rubbing will produce unique baroque shapes. Pearl color (unless artificially dyed) and luster is affected by each nacre layer's thickness and foreign elements caught in the nacre.

Pleased with my purchase. Received as described. Well packed. Absolutely beautiful. I purchased this item for a craft project to be used as buttons. It turned out just as I had expected. These are nice pearls. I don't know too much about pearls, they appear to be real, not faux. They have not flaked, as if they were painted. They feel nice, & weighted. They are a good size & shape. They would make a nice gift for another or yourself. Would purchase again if and when needed. Considering buying one more as a mother~in~law gift. I would recommend this item if you are seeking a nice, good quality freshwater cultured pearls, either as a bracelet or for crafting. Good value.

These pearls are nice and you can tell they're real. I used them for beading prayer beads but I give it three stars because it had less amount of pearls than that that was in the photo.
