Nice history book.
Nice collection of material. This publisher does pretty good work. I purchased it because I went to Basic Training at Cape May.

Extremely educational
Having gone to boot camp from June-August 1961 (12 weeks) I know nothing about it's history, and as recruits weren't told about it. Loads of pictures, but many with poor resolution. Even with that, it's worth to pay the price for this book and must buy for any Coastie that went there or even training there now.

USCG TRAINING CENTER
THIS BOOK was great in my effort to revisit my experience at Cape May during the summer of 1955. I had no idea that this was a Naval facility before the USCG took over. Great place to visit, but this book did include a lot of earlier history of this base.

US Coast Guard Training Center at Cape May
Having served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1972-2002, and a graduate of Training Center Cape May, I have a personal love for this town. Over the course of my career, and even in retirement, I often go back there. I served as the 8th Master Chief Petty Officer of the Coast Guard (1998-2002), and held my retirement ceremony there, even though I was stationed at Coast Guard Headquarters in Washington, DC. I love Cape May ... most importantly I love Training Center Cape May. This is where I started my adult life and my love for the Coast Guard!

It was interesting reading about the history of this "boot camp" that I spent 13 weeks in back in the 1950s.The book is loaded with pictures and information that i could relate to. It is all in black and white photos, but it was very familiar to me and anyone who attended the training center should get a flashback while reading the book. I did.I highly recommend this book to "ex-Coasties" as a reminder of the "good old days".

Bought this for my father-in-law who had been retired from the US Coast Guard for 50 years as a Christmas present. He would look at it every night and smile at the pictures. He passed away on January 1, 2015. Thank you for giving him some pleasant memories at the end.
