Swingline Stapler, Retro, Legacy #27, 20 Sheets, Red (S7089542)

I like the old-fashioned look of the stapler, which goes with my half-hearted effort to do a "Mad-Men" theme in my office, and it is fairly heavy and sturdy. It will staple up to about 25 pages with a quick, hard tap from a fist or butt of your palm, and will easily staple about 12 pages with a normal press. It has so far endured about 100 sharp slams from my fist to get through 25+ pages, so I'm giving it five stars for durability (it's also entirely possible I'm not as strong as I'd like to think...).I would have liked if it had a full bottom made of rubber to make it easier to use in the hand, which I'm used to these days; but I'm getting used to using it flat on a surface.

I am a little old school and like to use retro or antique items in my office. This stapler is perfect. It is the 1970’s design from swingline and looks exactly like the staplers I remember schools having. I think the green color is more classic but it was out of stock. The red is fabulous. It is more of a muted red not the flashy bright red you get with new models.

This isn’t a sentence I ever thought I’d write, but MAN this is a pretty stapler!! It also feels extremely durable, staples with very little force, and seems like it’ll last me forever. It reminds me of the heavy metal staplers from my mom’s classroom growing up (although they were an ugly brown/beige color. Lol!) and those things are still around. Very happy with this purchase & so very glad I didn’t waste my time/money on a cheaper plastic alternative.

The reviews for this stapler are everywhere & not helpful at all so I thought I would post an objective & practical review in hopes that it'll help others make their decision. (1.) The stapler is made out of some type of metal. The Swingline emblem is the only piece of plastic on the stapler & is rather durable unless you plan on hammering something in the wall or throwing it at a co-worker, which I recommend against doing. (2.) The stapler weights over 1lb which is the average weight of most desk staplers. Not sure why anyone would want more. (3.) The stapler channel loads 210 standard staples. This is huge for me because i hate having little pieces of staples floating around because it didn't fit in the chamber. (4.) No staples have gotten jammed in my stapler. There really isn't an instruction manual on how to staple sheets of paper. I lift the stapler, place the barrel where I want the staple to be & do one firm squeeze with one hand. If I didn't squeeze hard enough for the staple to press in I tend to move the stapler so the staple that misfired can move out of the way before I do another firm squeeze. This seems to keep all of my staplers from jamming. (5.) The green color reminds me of the old avocado green refrigerator my parents had when I was little. So am loving this color. i really wanted the red one. I didn't expect it to be cherry red, but one reviewer said it was pink which I'm now pretty sure is a blatant exaggeration. Either way it made me purchase shy. I may buy the red one for my home office... That's only if I can justify having 3 staplers at home... LOLAll in all, I love this stapler!

Everything about this purchase exceeded our expectations. Something is simple as a stapler can often be overlooked but also creates frustrations, lost productivity, and damage to documents. This retro swingline looks like a million dollars, feels as sturdy as some commercial stapler's I've used, easy to fill and use, and is narrow and streamlined enough to slip onto a desk between items without taking up a lot of room.

My 4 stars is based on appearances only, as I have not had a chance to put it through the paces. It is a beautiful piece of art. I choose this model to fit my office motif of 1930s-40s era. Although this model originally was introduced in the early 50s, the art deco styling fits in well, and stands out among the common model 747. It is nice and beefy, as all major parts are made with heavy metal. I hope this is a good sign towards its durability. My only complaint is the available colors. The originals came out with a dark gun metal, or "school green". I would have preferred the gun metal, but its not an option. As such, I went with the green, as the red and blue was not true to history. With that said, the color is nice and rich and has a smooth finish, but not what I wish was available.

I ordered it because it was “retro”, but it is not easy to use, it keeps getting hung up ! I should have returned it. It’s mostly used as a paper weight!

Really a great stapler, slightly more difficult to use than a modern style might be, but by that I mean it gives just slightly more resistance than your average modern style stapler does. Overall I’m happy with my purchase and would still buy again. It’s adorable and functions just fine.

I wanted a vintage look staplerThis was it!!!! Quality product. Buy the best staples for it. I did. Worth every penny!!!!! I imagine this will go on for decades. Sturdy and very handsome lol
