Shameful
Shame to be a white person after reading this book. I would also be upset that this is not known

Great book about an event I'm sure not many people from the South are aware of
Lived in Wilmington, North Carolina for almost 2 years of my life and I had no idea this even happened over 100 years ago. Wasn't taught this in school or anything. Really, the only way to move forward correctly is to learn from, accept, and correct the mistakes that were made in the past. This book does a fantastic job of breaking down the events leading up to and during the Wilmington Insurrection of 1898. 5 STARS.

Tell it like it is
School history books are all fiction. It is nothing but propaganda. It is unfathomable that people think they are better than any one else. It’s a mental illness. This book was necessary and we need many more.

Read, learn, remember and conduct yourselves honorably.
I just opened it. It is a very slim book. I am looking forward to reading that this evening. I also ordered another one on the same subject. The one that was written by Don Lemon. We need to learn about these things and make sure they never ever happen again. Especially after January 6, 2021!

information
I have never heard of this insurrection until recently. I have lived in North Carolina most of my life and thought I knew about the important aspects of it's history. I am enjoying this book and the information it is providing.

Learned a lot about a part of our US racist history I didn’t know.
Very good review of history or racism in US in South after the CivilWar. Interesting that the Democratic Party was leading the effort to eliminate Blacks from office and Wilmington plusother areas, especially in the south. It’s good to kenos our history!

Well-Crafted Account
This is one of the most detailed examinations I have read of a historical subject, and I have read a couple hundred similar accounts.Truly outstanding! Shameful to know that this kind of brazen lawlessness took place in our "democracy."

Weird Little Right-Wing Pamphlet Masquerading as a Book
This "book" begins with an extended series of quotes from a modern GOP operative, and then in its 53 pages of text uses the word "Democrat" hundreds of times, generally multiple times each page. Its core point is that 130 years ago, white racists in the South were mostly part of the Democratic party. That is, of course, true because white racists in the South have only favored the Republican party for about a half century now (since the 1960s, when the Republicans fought to continue cheating black citizens out of their constitutional right to vote). The author appears to think this is something the Republicans should be proud of. The "book", in all of its 53-page-long glory, is shallow, tedious and ultimately just dumb. Amazon suggested it as a package with an actual book that I was buying - I will not rely on Amazon's suggestions again.
