This ocarina is a fine one.
This is my first wind instrument. I had no idea whether or not I'd take to it, but I've loved ocarina music for years, and I decided to just see what I might do with one of my own. It arrived quickly. I immediately liked the look and feel of this ocarina. The included instruction sheet helped me get started, and online lessons are easy to find, and Amazon has good ocarina instruction books complete with CDs.It's certainly fragile. Ceramics tend to be. I consider the strap to be something to wrap around my left wrist, and the thing can't escape that. If I do break it, I'll get another copy of the same.My first tries at playing were hopeless, of course, but I was patient enough to persist and get my fingers beyond total discomfort and within a week and an hour or so per day, and gradually the ocarina and fingering became very comfortable, and now I'm working on sharps and flats and making my notes clean, with a little natural vibrato developing as I go. I just want to get better, because the sound is so appealing and the instrument is so small and portable that I can carry it everywhere and practice anywhere - including in my car in the garage when my wife is trying to take a nap.I'm sure there are better ocarinas in the world, but I don't regret starting with this one.

Absolutely fantastic
I was skeptical at first because of the two reviews on here being almost identical so I wanted to post my own review.I absolutely love the thing. The case is quality and awesome looking. I put it on my belt and walked around the renaissance festival all day with it bumping around my hip. Never came loose, never had a drop, worked perfect. There are absolutely no defects on the instrument itself, everything is perfect smooth, and the finish on it is very similar to a rock smoothed by the ocean. Feels lovely. As others have mentioned, the high notes get quite a bit breathy, but those low notes are always completely gorgeous.I have had one of the beads on the very end of the retractable necklace fall off because there's no knot after it on the string, but hey... watchya gonna do. It's not near enough to dock a star. It was nice to have on there but it really doesn't matter much.I've received multiple people asking about it, loving the sound. While it looks bulky and out of place worn around the neck, it's nice to have the necklace on there for safety reasons. All in all, completely wonderful. I have even taken time out of my night to write this review. Bravo OcarinaWind, you deserve it.

I loved this ocarina until I immersed it into water to clean it and it completely disintegrated within 10 minutes in water. There were no care instructions warning me of this. I immediately ordered another one because I really loved it. The next one came back and it wasn't black like the last one. It was more of a dark brown clay color and the color on top was splotchy. The seller refunded my original purchase and I am hoping to get one that is just like the picture. Have these ocarinas been fired in a kiln? I ordered a Strawfire Dragon Tooth ocarina from Ocarina Wind and it tastes very strong like clay dirt. Is it toxic? I am concerned about this product for these reasons. I am very satisfied with the tonal quality of sound. And if they are totally safe and harmless, I will continue to be a very happy customer.

Slightly Out-of-tune B.
The instrument came decently packaged, though lacking much shipping protection or air cushioning. Regardless, mine arrived in tact. The ocarina is very nice looking, and comes with a useful protective bag (has a belt loop), and a nice looking necklace to hold it around your neck. The ocarina sounds good, with one exception. My middle-high B sounds VERY sharp. With my tuner, playing the correct Concert B pitch, is very breathy. The note is NOT punchy for some reason. If I blow with the pressure that makes the note punchy like the other ones, the pitch goes far too sharp, to the point where it is nearly a C. This is my only qualm, and as such, I will likely order a better ocarina when I have the time.Nonetheless, for beginner wanting to learn the basics, or just play a bit around with friends, this instrument is a good choice.

pretty safe bet for a beginner ocarina
This was a gift, so I didn't personally look at it much other than to make sure there was no damage to the ocarina. I own several ocarinas and other ceramic instruments and on initial inspection can say that for the price, this is a decent ocarina for a beginner. It's fairly priced and to get a decent quality plastic ocarina that a beginner could learn and expand off of is simply not worth it. Even high quality ones suffer from an airy quality of sound when for just 8-10 USD more you could get something that will last much longer beyond the "toy" mentality. Not to mention that this brand comes with a small adjustable necklace that you can tie to the ocarina.Simply put, pretty safe bet for a beginner ocarina. Matte finish makes for a nice grip. Necklace. Small song booklet. There are other choices for 20 USD, but they're all quite difficult to verify and find, such as some TNG brand ocarinas, whereas this one is far easier to just say it's good enough and buy from a website like Amazon. Upon hearing the recipient blow on it, it sounds like the sound quality is fair enough for the price and that there wasn't any damage.
