LG Magic Remote 2020 - AN-MR20GA, Black

I bought this LG remote control from Amazon to replace my old one, and I couldn’t be happier. It synced with my LG TV instantly—no setup or programming needed. It works well with my telly, and I'm impressed with the "cordless mouse" control style, and the voice control that could understand my thick Hull accent with no difficulty. Having said that, the direction control buttons surrounding the OK button is a rather flimsy circle of plastic that fell out on first use, but clicked back into its housing okay. However, I find myself sometimes being overly careful when using the direction control. Also, the on screen mouse pointer doesn't seem to quite match up with the movement of the remote and the two become misaligned after one or two movements. This leads to having to move the pointer to a corner of the screen and moving the remote so they re-align. I am fairly pleased with it overall, even taking my (admittedly minor) issues into account.

Okay… this is actually quite a sophisticated piece of control hardware, even though it looks simple on the surface. Because this isn’t just a remote with buttons. It’s a multi-input interface for navigating an entire TV system. You’ve got motion control—where the remote acts like a pointer. That changes interaction from directional clicking to spatial selection. It becomes more direct. More immediate. You’re not just pressing “down” five times—you’re moving through the interface in real space. Then there’s voice input. That adds another layer of control abstraction. You’re not limited to physical navigation—you can issue commands, search, and trigger functions through speech. That reduces friction in a different way. And the standard buttons are still there, which matters. Because redundancy in control systems is important. If one method is less effective in a given situation, you still have fallback options. That increases reliability in real-world use. The ergonomics also matter more than people think. The curved body, the button placement, the weight distribution—it all affects how naturally it sits in the hand. And when you’re interacting with a TV system repeatedly over long periods, that becomes noticeable. There’s also the “magic” cursor system, which translates motion into on-screen movement. When calibrated properly, it reduces navigation time and makes complex menus easier to traverse. That’s a meaningful usability improvement, not just a novelty.

Lots of connectivity issues specially with the smart functions (laser and voice). After a few days the the smart functions stopped responding completely. The remote came in a generic red box with the lg logo and the remote also has the lg logo, but feels fragile and cheap. Very different from the original

Replaced old one works well

It arrived early, product was exactly as described and is a replacement for the original remote that came with TV - it linked immediately - no problems so far. Thank you

Pairing process was quite straightforward and didn't have any issues. Can assign shortcuts to numberpad and the 'mouse' cursor works well. Since it is working via Bluetooth, you don't need to point it to make it work ( except when using the cursor) Built quality is not bad either. Dropped it a quiet a few times and still working well.

This is an excellent replacement for the original. It works great and haven’t encountered any issues. As soon as I opened the package, put in batteries and it worked. No set up needed. I would recommend this.
