Fighting Satan: Knowing His Weaknesses, Strategies, and Defeat

Arming Yourself Against Evil
This book has the most practical understanding of how to guard against Satan than any book I’ve ever read. It could use more practical examples but it’s still very good. If you ever feel disconnected when reading the Bible and can’t figure out exactly what it means for example to ‘put on the armor of God,’ well look no further: this book explains it and will equip you to be victorious n your walk with God and withstanding Satan.

Spiritual Gold For Spiritual Warfare
In order to successfully combat Satan one must know something about him and also acquaint themselves with how he operates.Deception is one of his primary weapons and one of the ways he deceives many is by convincing them that he does not even exist. Mr.Beeke brings out in the preface the importance of being aware of Satan-"we must know his strategies, his power and his weakness." This knowledge of Satan is part of what will help the saint to overcome him.Joel R.Beeke outlines three primary ways for 'The saint of God' to combat 'The Prince Of Darkness'.The first is 'Strategic Retreat'-hiding ourselves in Christ, seeking refuge and shelter in our Lord and Savior, relying on his strength and power to protect us.The second way to fight 'The Evil One' is 'An Unyielding Defense'-using the spiritual armor listed in Ephesians 6:10-18-"we stand, fight, conquer and drive Satan out in the strength of God's armor, most of the armor is for protection." The third way to fight Satan is 'An Attacking Offense'. The sword of the Spirit(The Word Of God)and Prayer are both offensive and defensive weapons. The author asserts that prayer is the greatest weapon in the Christians arsenal. The Word of God,let it dwell in you richly,it is a powerful weapon in 'Our Sanctification Arsenal'.-"keep that sword polished and bright by living out the Bible truths each day". If you don't apply and live out Biblical truth it is like not unsheathing your sword. In chapter five 'Satan's Strategies And Skill' Mr.Beeke helps acquaint us with 'The Master Tempter'.a)"Satan's Spiritual Being And Power'.No believer is Satan's equal intellectually, its not even close. In our own strength(and intellect)he cannot be withstood, but 'The Child Of God' can do all things through Christ who strengthens them.b)'Satan's Tireless Energy For Promoting Evil'-we all tire physically,mentally,emotionally... .We need rest to recover our strength. We are more vulnerable when tired and weary.-"Satan relentlessly and endlessly tempts man to keep him from God." He does not rest in his efforts to destroy souls or at least disrupt them as much as he can.Do you want to be more holy and more useful in God's service? There are things that are more dangerous for you, that would not be as dangerous for another believer.Avoiding 'The Way Of Temptation' (Satan knows where and when you are most vulnerable to fall)is an important part of your progress in sanctification. The wise Pastor gives this astute counsel-"Do not ask how close you can come to sin without sinning, but strive to keep as far from sin as possible."The godly Minister and seminary professor draws heavily from 'The Writings Of The Puritans' on Spiritual Warfare. They were mighty warriors for 'King Jesus' and very knowledgable on the tactics of Lucifer. This is one of the most helpful books on 'Christian Warfare' that can be found.

Good teaching regarding our warfare as Christians.
Mr. Beeke gives an accurate description of the our enemy Satan. Knowing the enemy. One can't defeat an enemy unless he knows the enemy and how the enemy operates. Mr. Beeke describes the Scriptural teaching regarding our enemy plus Satan's ploys in church history and today and the future. He then gives a section on knowing Satan's weaknesses:Fighting him defensively and offensively. Building an unyielding defence and building an attacking offense. Then he goes on and demonstrates Satan's strategies: His strategies and skills and confronting the four main strategies of Satan.Lastly he demonstrates knowing Satan's defeat in our personal lives, churches and nation. Our challenge as believers, our challenge as church members, and our challenge as citizens. He discusses the Scriptural teachings - Ephesians 6:10-18. Some good advise on P.92. 1.Walk by the rule of Scripture. 2. Don't vex or grieve the Holy Spirit.3. Pursue heavenly wisdom.4. Resist Satan's first overtures immediately. 5.Strive to be filled with the Spirit. 6. Remain humble. 7. Maintain a strong and constant watch. 8. Maintain communion with God. 9. Fight Satan in Christ's strength, not your own. 10. Pray much. I highly recommend this book to all and especially new believers. All believers need to know and understand these Scriptural teachings because we are in a warfare! Our warfare as Christians is not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against hosts of spiritual wickedness in the heavenly places. God gives us the victory and we need to know His word - Romans 8:31-39. II Timothy 3:1-7; 4:2-4.The apostle Paul exhorts Timothy to wage a good warfare - I Timothy 1:18. 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 "For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, Casting down arguments and every high thing that exxalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ." Satan is very deceitful and has his own deceivers acting as agents of Christ to deceive the untaught - 2 Corinthians 11:3, 13-15. I highly recommend this book. Thanks - Bob Jones.

Small in size but large in knowledge.
Great book that is full of scriptural references that examines Satan many techniques to keep people from knowing and worshipping Jesus. There may be bigger books on this subject but none that I know of as precise in defeating his plans of deceit.

This book is identical to "Striving Against Satan" (Joel Beeke, 2006). If you own that book already there is no need to buy this edition.

Not to be missed...
This book is a much needed resource for the practical ways in which believers can be equipped to 'fight the good fight' and depend on God as our sure defence from the enemy. This book is saturated with biblical references and where the verses are not quoted, it is quite easy to understand the biblical basis for the ideas presented.I would highly recommend this book to those who profess to be Christians and also those who are searching. This book is particularly helpful for those who feel that they are going through a time of trial or are in the midst of spiritual conflict.

Biblical, practical strategies for standing firm in Christ.
Joe Beekeeper offers a concise yet thorough walkthrough of ho we are to submit to God and resist the devil. He walks through the traps of Satan and the Lords remedies before walking through the various contexts in which we engage the enemy, as ever with his works, this is biblical, practical and entirely Christ centred. Recommended.
