Third Thermaltronics tips died on me within 2 years. But might still better than MetCal
3 of them died in 2 years and I am only a hobbyist that is not using them daily. We have Metcal at work, they last. Don't buy any more of this brand. Now the 9000 station last, it's better than Metcal MX500.I edit this, I bought the Metcal STTC-836 and STTC837, they worked great for the first two weeks, but it's getting harder and harder to solder, it's like a coat of oxide formed on the tip. It CANNOT be cleaned by wet sponge of the solder station. I even stick it into the copper mesh to try to clean it, it won't work. It is hot, I feel it's too hot that a coat of oxide formed and prevent heat transfer. I have return both and craw back to buy another of this Thermaltronics tip. It's like choosing between bad or worst!!! So I raise it to 2 stars.
