These coddlers work! Deliver a fine coddled egg every time!
I read many reviews and was somewhat discouraged by the results other buyers were finding with their coddlers. I had attempted coddling eggs in my ramekins using paper towels to prevent moisture from the simmering water from ruining them. Nothing worked. Then I discovered these coddlers with the nice little lids and metal bands to secure the tops as the coddler does its job sitting in the simmering water. Taking butter to the inside and smearing all around, then adding the cream, a bit of our favorite cheese, chives and some diced bacon or ham, and lastly adding the egg with salt and pepper. Securing the tiny lid, placed in the simmer, waiting 10 minutes, removing to plates and happily dipped toast strips in the coddled egg. DELICIOUS. Perfect coddled eggs every time.

I have tried many different coddlers and this particular design is THE best. The heavy clear glass (super easy to see what you're coddling), the stainless clasp- doesn't snap and break like the silicone straps of others. Also it's WAY easier to open without making a mess when you want to get into whatever you've coddled. This size, the 4.4 oz easily holds 2 eggs - even with a onion or mushrooms or chopped spinach added at the bottom or top. Everything dishwasher safe. The only thing is they are very hard to find this particular design/manufacturer. I waited weeks to get this one - came from out of the country somewhere. It's truly worth the extra money. Just put your patient pants on, they're worth the wait. Having said all of that, I never hesitate to update my reviews should new info seem useful.

Versatility and price
This is the best egg coddler I've owned. I like that I can see what stage it's at in cooking. And, I like the versatility of being able to use it in the microwave without the clip. And the price is right.
