The First-Year Teacher's Checklist: A Quick Reference for Classroom Success

Excellent and easy read--A MUST for your first year!
I love that this is a checklist! It makes it really easy to read. Considering that the beginning of the year and the first year are incredibly stressful and an extraordinary amount of work, I like this format much better than other "first-year" books. I highly recommend it to any new teacher. Some items on the lists are repetitive, but I believe that it is simply to drive home the importance of it (example: "clean & clear your desk at the end of each day," and "arrive a little bit early and stay a little bit late." We're halfway through the first quarter and I've been staying far too late, so I think that I need to revisit this book!

Lots of good ideas!
As a first year teacher, I have lots of training, but little experience. Let's say that I was having trouble "redirecting students who are off task." Off the top of my head, I can come up with a few ideas. Paging through notes from my methods classes, I can find a couple more. Well, I turn to page 94 of THE FIRST-YEAR TEACHER'S CHECKLIST, and find a list of two dozen ideas. Am I going to use each one? No. But, it would have taken years for me to think of all of these. It really is a great reference for any teacher who really wants to reflect on their own teaching and push themselves to try new things.

Great 1st and 2nd Year book
If you are a teacher and have been teaching for less than two years, I would recommend this book. Great tips and tricks and advice! I purchase these every year for my student-teachers who I have supervised! They always tell me how much they love the book and how useful it is.

Great for new and senior teachers
Very handy reminder checklists for new and senior teachers. Good teachers know most of the things mentioned in the book already, but to have it all organized in lovely checklists is wonderful!!
