From the beginning, the tension between the main characters builds to a crescendo near the end. But, lots of characters introduced and developed along the way. Mentink needs to write much more—and I’ll read each one!Technically, there are very few grammatical and editing errors in this book than many of the others. It was a joy to read. The plot and pace of the action kept me glued to the pages!Yet, there are loose strings that need to be tied up! And so, I’m off looking for the next in the series!! Good description of the bloodhound. However, contact one of the local or national kennel clubs to get someone as an advisor for the breeds you talk about. It would add so much more color and depth to these stories, as well as, hook those dog lovers and the dog fanciers reading your work!

Madison's a newspaper reporter trying to get her biggest story. She's had a difficult life with her mom dying, her dad in prison and her sister estranged from her for a while. When her editor sends her over to the next town for a story, she meets a K-9 officer. James loves his work and his partner, Hawk, a huge bloodhound with a great nose for tracking. Murder, extortion and illegal activities have taken over their peaceful town. James is determined to solve the mysteries. His past is riddled with trusting issues like Madison's, though. Because of his past choices, his brother was falsely accused and arrested. The story from a reporter made everything much worse than it should have been for his brother and family. Can Madison and James learn to trust again? Who's the extortionist, targeting businesses to pay a "safety fee"? Will James be able to keep Madison alive when she keeps interviewing the wrong people? And, how can he control the over-eager, raring to track Hawk? This is a wonderful book that focuses on letting ourselves trust again through trusting in God. I love this series and am eager for the next book to come out!

I purchased this book on my brother's recommendation, and the fact that one of the primary characters was a dog. In fact, this is part of a series with each book written by a different author. The individual authors do manage to keep continuity within the series, so it's almost as if it was written by one person. The books themselves (I've read 4 of them) are okay; I'd read books by those authors. However, in some respects their "reality" isn't really real--no cop I know would stop to pray before attempting to chase down the bad guy.

James, a cop, doesn't trust reporters. Madison, a reporter, doesn't really trust cops. When they meet while addressing what could be a series of murders and assaults in their small town sparks fly, and James realizes his time is best spent protecting Maddie. James canine partner, the bloodhound Hawk is a special treat. His boisterous and eager personality bring a real delight to any interactions that include him. James and Maddy, with the help of family and friends, search for answers for the crime spree. But they also search their consciences and faith to overcome their prejudices and pasts and move on to their future. A loving tale.

Good suspense. Deals a lot with trust issues. Clean read.Newspaper reporter keeps looking into what is going on meanwhile someone keeps trying to kill her.The rookie who is assigned to protect her hates reporters because one of them ruined his family years ago. Of course they are attracted to each other.Good drama, plenty of action, romance and mystery.

This book's ending seriously surprised me! The people characters Madison and James, are easy to like and you find yourself rooting for them to overcome their past and really get to know each other. The real hero of the book though is Hawk. We have a 13 year old beagle and we know the kind of trouble a hound dog can get into! This book is filled with action and surprises and a lot of nice people (and a few that aren't so nice)!

This book was great! It's also a wonderful addition to the series. I loved the characters and how they found a way to work together! Our pasts can trap us and this book is about letting the past go! I'd highly recommend this book to anyone who want a read that will keep them reading!

Entertaining murder mystery about a young reporter determined to prove herself and overcome a painful history, and the K-9 rookie Officer James Harrison and his trusty bloodhound.

Another good read but a very tough story saying as a police are bad it does happen but I feel for the good ones

I am enjoying reading this series about the rookies k9unit. I can't wait for the next book to come out so I can read it to. I would recommend it to anyone who likes to read about the k9unit Patrols. This is the second series written about the k9unit s please keep writing about this dog unit.

Quite suspenseful. Keeps you reading and guessing. Appeared to be very well researched. Enjoyed the leading characters. Especially, Hawk, the K9!

It was great to see how smart the dogs are.
