The January 1985 release of the band's third studio album, New Day Rising, saw the trio transcend their hardcore origins with a set of material that simultaneously referenced rock's pasts and futures. By moving away from the American hardcore scene that was increasingly withering between its rigid, conformist straight edges, the trio drew predictable criticism from those who remained unwilling to progress with them. Calling all Du fans
2 complete concerts from 81 and 85 from the great Husker Du. 81 is short as they were the opening act, 29 minutes but the sound is good and most of the songs never made it to disc and is from before their 1st actual release. 85 sounded better in my car then on my home system but the wife was home and I couldn't crank it up as much as I would have liked. Bob and Grant sounded great as they were young and hungry. I think Bobs guitar could have been turned up a little but it's a great timepiece that would be a great addition to any Du fans collection. Wish the would remaster The Living End with another disc of bonus cuts like they did on some of Bob's solo stuff. The sound quality of these discs are close to the same as the great live bonus concerts included on the deluxe reissues from Workbook and the great Sugar releases.
