Holman Study Bible: NKJV Edition, Eggplant/Tan LeatherTouch Imitation Leather – Box set, September 1, 2013

I received my Bible today and I am thoroughly impressed! I was looking for a Bible with a lot of features that wouldn't break the bank and this fit the bill beautifully.The Bible arrived not only well packaged by Amazon but well Packaged by B&H Publishing Group (Holman). The box the Bible comes in is very thick and sturdy, which will eliminate any shipping damage to the Bible itself.Actually, before I get into the specifics of the Bible I want to talk briefly about B&H Publishing. I poked around their website and and read their "about us" page. Here is a brief statement from that page:"B&H Publishing Group, a division of LifeWay Christian Resources, is a non-profit publisher made up of people who are passionate about taking God's Word to the world. Because we believe Every Word Matters(tm), we seek to provide intentional, Bible-centered content that positively impacts the hearts and minds of people, inspiring them to build a lifelong relationship with Jesus Christ."Reading this really warmed my heart! It is inspirational to see a company which puts God first before human desires (money). It really shows in their product that profits are put aside to share the word because what they give you for the money you spend on the product is nothing short of amazing!Now onto the Bible itself.Cover - Black Genuine LeatherNot sure on the exact type of leather, if I were to guess I would say bonded by the texture and smell (plastic smell). Don't let this deter you though, It has a nice thickness and is not too soft or not too rigid, just right in my opinion. Granted its not Goatskin or Calfskin but for the price, its a great deal.Binding - Sewn (TBD)As far as I can tell the binding is sewn. I can see signatures (tiny little "books" that compromise one large book). I have not found the stitching along the middle of a signature though. (I have only had the Bible a few minutes though before doing this review). There is also a glue line along the bottom of the tailband. This doesn't necessarily mean that its glued though, it could just be reinforcement. Regardless, if it is not sewn and your Bible starts to fall apart, contact B&H. It is my understanding there is a lifetime warranty on their Bibles.One note I would like to add. The bible is able to lay flat and open from Genesis 1:1 to Revelation 22:21. I believe this has to do with the binding. Nothing more annoying then a book that always closes on you.Indexes - Really good, put not perfectThe indexes hold 3 books for each index. Due to the thickness of the book I think they could have gotten away with doing 1 index per 1 book. Not sure if 3 books is standard (its been years, maybe decades since I had an indexed Bible) but 1 book per would have been nice. Also, there are real slight imperfections in the indexes with the cutting process. Some pages/sections seem to have little nicks in them. Not a huge deal by any means, I just want to make readers aware. Its so slight its really nitpicking in my opinion.Edging - SilverJust about every Bible out there has gold edging. I rather like the silver edging. Its a nice change of pace.Ribbon Markers - 2, red/blackI really like the fact this has 2 ribbon markers. I read my Bible daily and obviously we read during Church Service. It's nice to have 2 markers so I can keep separate places held.Size - OKI would say the size is just OK. It's a study Bible, so it's going to be big. I am a pretty big guy myself so its not a huge deal for me. However, for people with smaller hands or strength issues I would say this is not a good Bible to Travel with. I plan on taking it with me to service for now but I will probably opt for something a little more portable in the future.Layout - Fantastic!Personally I love the 2 column layout. The text font and size are perfect for me, not too big and not too small. Jesus words are in red (which I also like but is a con for others). The red lettering is a nice red, most other Bibles I have found seem to have a washed out red, not the case here. Cross reference are in-between the columns and the area is relatively small. I like this fact as well because some reference areas in other Bibles really take up real estate on the page. The reference numbering is a teal color which is easily readable and nice on the eyes.The margins are not really large at all, little, if no room to write notes. For me I prefer it this way. I don't write in my Bibles so having the extra real estate for text is nice.The Bible has plenty of timelines, pictures (full color!), study notes, charts and essays.Page Quality - averageThis is the weakest point of the whole Bible in my opinion. The lettering and pictures can be seen through the page. It is distracting and will take some getting used to. To combat this the wording is a really rich black which helps bring your eyes to what you are reading but its a double edge sword because of the richness/boldness of the text it is visible through the page.Commentary - TBDI want to give this part special consideration. My hope with having a study Bible is to give me good reference, translation and history of any particular passages or text. It is my understanding that Holman commentary with this Bible is from their HCSB translation. My hope is this sticks to facts and not interpretation. Getting a Bible like this with all these features is unheard of at a price point of ~$60. I have seen Bibles like this (actually with less features) going for $150-$200. The only thing that separates this from those Bibles would be the covering, most of them have calfskin or goatskin. Otherwise you are not going to find a better value than this. My only qualm with this Bible is the page quality, text and pictures really show through the page. If I had to do it all over again I would still by this Bible again in a heartbeat!If you are looking for a NKJV study Bible then look no further, this is the one!

I love this Bible! I’ve had mine for 3 years and its well used. It’s still holding up, even though my toddler colored on the cover and a few pages. I tried to replace it with a new Bible from another publisher but I keep coming back to this one. I’ll be buying another one soon!

I have a large study Bible that I use at home. I was taking it to church with me, but I found it too heavy. Also it was difficult to write in my notebook and handle the Bible with ease. I had been looking for a compact or personal size Bible to take to church with me. Even though I have an IPad and a Nook, I prefer to use a Bible in church.I ordered this Bible from Amazon. Let me share with you the things that like about it.1. The print is a nice size. I wear glasses for reading, and I can see the words with no problem.2. The words of Christ are in red. ( Much to my surprise all Bibles do not have that.)3.At the beginning of each book is an introduction, timeline, explanation and outline.4. Near the front of the Bible is a page entitled, 'God's Plan for Salvation." What a great way to share with someone who may not know the Lord.5. At the bottom of the pages is the commentary, with the scripture numbers next to the commentary that pertains to it.6. The commentary is easy to understand. My large study Bible is not a Holman Bible. It is larger and has a longer more detailed explanation of the scriptures. But this Bible provides you enough information to provide a deeper meaning and a clearer understanding.7. There is a Concordance.8. There are color pictures. This reminds me of the Bible that I had as a child. ( Just a personal observation.)9. The outside is soft but feels sturdy.Minor issues1. I like when Bibles have tabs at the beginning of each book. This one does not.2. It is a thick Bible. ( But it is easy to handle)3. Again this is a personal issues, I am not that crazy about the color.If you are looking for a Bible that you can take with you, I think you will find this very helpful. It is also a good Bible for your personal time of devotion. It is good for sharing with others. I am pleased with the purchase.On some sites you can find this Bible for 39.00 dollars. When you add the almost 6 dollars for shipping, the price comes out to be the same. I love this bible! It’s the best one I’ve bought yet. I have studied it so much the pages are ripping and there’s barely anyplace to write. It’s time for a new one. I love the word of God and can’t get enough. This bible has excellent commentary from scholars that your able to cross reference. The maps are good . My only issue is calling Israel palesstine. Israel has always been Israel and all publishers need to show respect to the nation of Israel. But otherwise I have bought several other of these and have them to my children. I praying for the day they open it and discover the heart captivating Love of God I have found. It’s a great bible for the price but then I’m not picky about leather and binding, that’s not why I buy a Bible. It’s the accurate Word of God and the study material in the bible. This bible has introductions to each book. Who wrote the book, the year and the context of the time. It has great concordance to go back and check scripture. I seriously can’t stay in one book for too long bc Gods word is jumping off the pages at me and I hear Him in every page. Right now I’m reading Jesus’ words again and every time I do I hear something new and learn more about Him that leaves me wondering and thinking of Him all day. I highly recommend this bible especially for a new believer bc it introduces you to HOW to study a bible. Most bibles don’t do that and people get all mixed up in what they’re reading. Buy this bible you won’t be sorry.

Verily verily I say unto thee that this is a beautiful 5 Gold Star Bible, it is practically illustrated on every page with either colour photographs, maps, graphs, diagrams, images, art or information. It's a red-letter Bible too, so the words of Our Lord and Saviour stand out more poignantly.Those that assembled (not authored as that was Jehovah) this Torah should be proud of the work they accomplished of Gods word. Also the NKJV is currently the best version of the Bible to read, keeping very very close to the original masoteric text but made a little more distinct in understanding and only slightly modernised. Easier to read.It is quite a big, heavy Bible and you will need a table to place it upon before reading from it, you will not be able to read from it whilst holding it in thy hand. Finished off with silk bookmarks and gilded edges make this Bible a treasure to keep and hand down through your generations.

The commentary in this bible is just fantastic. I have a graduate degree in divinity, and consider myself generally pretty knowledgeable about the bible, but I am always reading new and insightful things in this bible's commentary. My husband, a pastor, agrees, and often borrows my bible to supplement his other studies. The colour pictures are a nice bonus, and the concordance at the back isn't bad. We are surprised by how good this bible turned out to be.

Absolutely delighted to receive this Bible , well laid out and designed by the publishers ,the scripture readings , study notes , maps and illustrations from Genesis right through to Revelations, everything together in each chapter and relevant to each page.Highly recommend this edition love the NKJV , quick delivery from the USA to Crossgar ,County Down in Northern Ireland definitely a BIBLE to have !!
