Sharper Image SI861 Ionic Breeze Air Purifier Filter

My old one gave up the ghost. This is the replacement. I love these things! Once a week i give it a cleaning and it's good to go. My place smells fresh all the time - guests have told me so.

First one I received did not work. It was replaced, very dirty, I cleaned it up and have had it working for 4 days and so far doing fine. Supplier was very helpful and replaced without any hasle.

Worked well for five months, but the use of poor materials in the construction lead to arcing of electricity between the plastic parts (during which it still worked fine) and eventually to failure. Now the 'cleaning overdue' lamp is always the bane of my existence no matter how well it is cleaned. I have done everything possible, including taking the entire unit apart and cleaning it spotless. I can get it to work for a day or two at a time by pressing the 'extra ions' button right at startup, but it will go back to flashing soon. I should mention that I previously had a similar model that worked great for nearly three years of heavy use (near litter boxes) before it started arcing in the power supply and had to be replaced by this one.

I bought one of these Ionic Breeze Professional Series GP air cleaners several years ago. I used it for about six months with no complaints except the occasional hissing noise it made whether or not I cleaned it. When I read the Consumer Reports critical (scathing!) review I put it in a closet and forgot about it. For the past several months we've had unusual monsoon rains here in Atlanta, and I live under a tree canopy with dense shade, so my house and furniture began smelling like mildew & mold. I tried everything to get rid of it, fans, furnace, open windows on clear days, sprinkling baking soda around and vacuuming constantly--all to no effect. Then I remembered the Ionic Breeze, brought it out and fired it up. Within 15 minutes most of the mildew smell in the living room was gone. This is not my imagination or a "placebo effect." The bad smells are gone. It still makes a zzzzzst sound despite cleaning, but perhaps that is the result of all the moisture in the air, or some residual dust inside the unit. I intend to vacuum it's innards carefully in the next couple of days and hope that will eliminate the sound.

I love it and would recommend it to anyone with dust allergies and who wants something easy to clean.

I've had one for a couple of years - but now the "cleaning overdue" button will not stay quiet - after cleaning it. Any ideas?

I don't think I got mine on Amazon but have owned it for over 10 years and it still works great - yes you will hear it start to crackle after being used for a few days - this means it is working and it is time to clean it with a damp cloth - takes maybe 2 minutes. Mine has fallen over, been stored for years then taken out to be used again and still works like the day I bought it. ON cold nights if it is too cold or windy to go outside, I will put a fan in the window and have a cigar in my home blowing smoke outside - even doing this the cigar smell is strong but after leaving on the Sharper Image Iconic Breezed GP for a few days incredibly it gets rid of the cigar smell. Highly recommended.

Sunday morning a pot of Chinese herbal tea was left unattended on the stove. After all the water boiled away the herbs started to burn filling the entire kitchen, dining room, living room and hall with a pungent smoke. After the smoke was cleared there was no visible smoke damage but the smell of burnt herbs was very present.I went through nearly an entire bottle of Febreze trying to get the smell out of the house to no avail. That solution was the number one suggestion on the Internet. Then I decided to put my Ionic Breeze GP, which lives in my bedroom, in the kitchen.Overnight the smell completely disappeared! No joke, I am amazed. The Ionic Breeze keeps the bedroom smelling fresh all the time but I had no idea is would remove a difficult odor from the entire house in a matter of eight hours. The Ionic Breeze is a miracle product. Had I hired a professional janitorial service to wipe down the walls and ceiling it would have cost more than the Ionic Breeze which did the job silently overnight for no additional cost.I cannot recommend the Ionic Breeze GP highly enough to do that little wonder justice.
