Kumon Grade 1 Reading (Kumon Reading Workbooks)

Good book. I hope my son will improve his reading skills through practice.

These kumon books have helped a lot to my son! Practice makes excellence! Great price, self pace without having to pay the monthly fee from Kumon. Also, I found this book at Barnes ans Noble and the price was tripled.

My son is going into 1st grade and finished this book the summer vacation prior. He struggled a bit with reading during kindergarten but this book started off easy enough that he felt confident and enjoyed working on it. His reading and writing improved quite a bit by the end. The book is made of good quality paper and illustrations are colorful and easy to understand. We plan to purchase 2nd grade reading and have him work on it in during 1st grade. I would recommend going up a grade.

The basic layout is the student reads a passage and answers question for comprehension. The main focus is sequencing and vocabulary. It's ideal for honing those first grade reading skills.

Best quality and learning tool!

While this is a good book, I do not think it allows independent work true to the Kumon Method unless your student is a confident reader. I used the Sight Words series in oder to get my son through this and the Grade 1 Writing. They recommend the Rhyming series but I did not find t as helpful as the Sight Words series. All my kids use Kumon and it this was another good one. My son is a 5yr old homeschooler.

I used this for my 4 year old daughter, who is in PreK 4. She was able to do most of it without help, although I had to read some of the passages to her toward the end. I find Kumon reading books to be more appealing because they are in color, very straightforward, and are a good supplement to a first grade vocabulary program at home. I taught her to read the first grade words, and this was a good addition to going more deeply into the first grade vocabulary. The books are very reasonable priced, and most importantly, I didn't have to persuade her to do them. Definitely recommend.

I have quite a few other workbooks which I have tried with homesccooling my first child. I discovered the Kumon books and really love them. My daughter does too - they are not as simple (and annoying to her) as the other books (school speciality, Learn at home... Those are OK, and i use them as a supplement to Kumon) Her reading and writing skills have jumped ahead since using the Kumon books, and only after about a month! This was after several months using other workbooks. I am very impressed, and have bought other books in the series. The math books and maze books are great too. Great content, Excellent quality paper too.

The grade 1 reading book is very useful in teaching children to learn to read. The best method is one page 3 nights a week to practice the reading skills. Not as much pressure for children to learn as they go learn at their own pace.

We love all Kumon books! We've used quite a few. Just like all others, it progresses the child slowly but surely! Fun exercises. The reading is based on writing, actually! This child becomes better both with writing and reading! My 5-6 year old did a great job and learned a lot!

Kumon Reading 1 is a homework book that is suitable for children who are studying the KS1 curriculum to practise phonics and reading comprehensions. I found its no stress "step-by-step" slowly but firmly approach helps my sons, who doesn't like writing much, to improve his skills. The attractive illustrations, big letter font and colourful pages makes doing homework less painful. I found this a good introduction workbook. The book has 36 exercises. The first half of the book (exercise 1-26) covers short vowels, consonants combinations, long vowels and basic vocabulary. Then from Exercise 27 onwards, the book deals with introduction reading comprehensions. Each reading comprehensions is about 5-10 short sentances(less than 80 words). The answers required for the Reading comprehensions were in sequencing (which picture happened first 1-5), or True/ False, or "fill-in-the-blank" sentences style with key answers blank out, and the rest of sentences already printed. For example: Question: Is the character a boy or a girl? Answer: The character is a _____. (The child needs to write the actual answer: boy.) I feel that this makes learning process less stressful for beginners as it requires writing the key part of the answers only but yet they could gain ideas of how to answer questions properly in sentence format. My son certainly benefited from it. He likes working on Kumon Reading Workbook range much better than others.

My son is 5 years and is able to read by himself after I started to make him read and write in this book. Good for kids who are facing difficulty in reading and writing. Everyday I will make him read and write 2 pages from this book
