1100 Words You Need to Know

This is a great tool for my students.

I am an English IV teacher. I teach general curriculum for special education students. Vocabulary is a constant struggle for these learners but they seem to be doing better using this format.

One book was perfect, but the other one was really painted and used with pen so It was harder the use of it.

Good quality

This book was described as "used". It would have been helpful to know that it was a workbook and "used" meant that the first 70 pages had all the answers written in. Unable to use those pages. I would have opted to buy new for a little bit more.

This book is designed well for studying a great number of words in a very systematic fashion.

この本で扱われている語彙のレベルはかなり高く、まさに英検１級（の特に最初の語彙の問題）の対策には最適です。たまに technology などの基礎的な単語が冗談ぽく混ざっていますが、全体的にはおそらくほとんど目にしたことがない単語ばかりだと思います。英検準１級レベルの単語もほとんど出てこないので、本当にハイレベルな語彙に的を絞って学習できます。１回の分量で扱う単語は５つだけなので、本に書いてあるとおり１回を１５分で切り上げることも可能です。１回分の分量が物足りないのであれば、自分で適宜量を増やせばいいだけなので、忙しい日とそうでない日とで臨機応変に調整できます。他の方のレビューを見ていると、「ＴＯＥＩＣのスコアを８００点台から９００点台にあげるために」使おうとした方もいらっしゃるようですが、ＴＯＥＩＣを８００点台から９００点台にあげるために必要なのは、難解な語彙の習得ではありません。単純に読解の精度＆スピードをあげ、またリスニングでミスをしなければいいだけの話ですから。そもそもＴＯＥＩＣにはそんな難解な単語はほとんど見かけられないし、それがわからなくても９９０点は取得できますので。なので、ＴＯＥＩＣのための対策としてはおすすめしません。アカデミックのいろいろな分野からの単語が出されるＴＯＥＦＬ対策にもあまり向かないのかもしれません。ハイレベルな語彙を築く手段として、個人的におすすめします☆

英語検定準１級〜１級のレベルの人のボキャブラリービルディングには最適のテキストかと思います。１日５つの新しい単語と１つのイディオムを学べます。このテキストと連携した音源があれば最高でしょうね。

Echoing the other reviews this book sticks to the task of giving a few words every day in the context of a short piece taken from a wide range of source types. My slight reservations are around the US authorship (and a lot is -ize instead of -ise to explain to my kids).Having now got this I realise it is aimed at reasonably advance KS3 readers (and indeed adults, there being many words I now find out I don't quite use correctly).

If you struggle with words such as humility, pragmatic or (I kid you not) technology then this is the book for you. Others may find  How to Build a Better Vocabulary  more helpful, although that comes with its own drawbacks. How to Build a Better Vocabulary

こうやって単語を覚えればよかったんだ! 何度も違うシチュエーションで出てくる単語。英英で考えさせられるパラフレージング。中古で買いましたが、前の人が解いた（または解けなかった）問題を解くのも楽しい！ボキャブラリーを増やしたい人にはお勧めの一冊です。英検1級勉強用に使っています。
