Don't Miss 'A Stolen Paradise'!
What fun! At the very beginning of the wild and wonderful "60's", Hollywood's most glamorous, and dazzling stars, including Richard Burton accompanied by his girlfriend Elizabeth Taylor at the height of their infamous romance, found themselves in a Mexican jungle paradise to film a movie based on a play by one of the greatest playwrights of all time, to be directed by one of the greatest directors of all time. Howard Johns does an amazing job telling the true story of the mixing of cultures and the making of "The Night of the Iguana". This is a fantastic and exciting read for anyone. Don't miss it!

Great story about the beginnings of Puerto Vallarta
Having never watched the movie, now I feel I must! Great story behind the scenes of the beginning days of Puerto Vallarta and how it became so famous. Although also a great recount of the making on the famous film, Night of the Iguana.

First Magnitude Stars-First Magnitude Book
A Stolen Paradise is author and film historian Howard Johns impeccably researched and literate telling of the making of the classic film NIGHT OF THE IGUANA adapted from Tennesse Williams Broadway stage play.John's well-crafted nonfiction reads like an adventure novel, as he serves as our tour guide down Mexico Way.The author leads us through the dusty streets of Puerto Vallarta south to the edge of the forest where we are handed large machetes that permit us to hack our way deep into the jungles of Mismaloya--back in time to the winter of 1964.As we cut through to a clearing, we find the complete cast of first magnitude stars on a break. They include Richard Burton, Deborah Kerr, Ava Gardner and the young Sue Lyon, fresh from her role as the teenage seductress in Stanley Kubrick's 1962 production of Lolita. (As a bonus, though not a part of the actual cast, we see Elizabeth Taylor standing close by Burton, her newfound love and soon to be husband.)Standing next to a trussed up, struggling to free itself iguana is famed director John Huston, cigar in hand, conversing with playwright Tennessee Williams over some minor script revisions.A Stolen Paradise is much more than just star gazing. It is an important historical documentation that immaculately captures a special time and place.Howard Johns book is a great read and highly recommended.Steve HodelNYT Bestselling author of Black Dahlia Avenger: A Genius for

Loved the book
I love the movie The Night Of The Iguana. It was so much fun to read the behind the scenes stuff. What a cast..Ava Gardner, Richard Burton, Deborah Kerr, Grayson Hall (nominated for best supporting actress) and Sue Lyon. Burton brought along Elizabeth Taylor. This was soon after The scandal of them falling in love on the set of Cleopatra. Add John Huston and Tennessee Williams, and great info. This is a book for anyone, not just fans of the Night of the Iguana, although I'm sure after reading book you'll want to watch it. This would be a fun movie on the behind the scenes stuff. Highly recommend.

A Great Read!
As a visitor to Puerto Vallarta for five decades, I thought I knew most of the history of what used to be a sleepy, little fishing village. This book, a joy to read, was a wealth of information about what went into the making of one of my favourite classic films, Night of the Iguana.I didn’t want the book to end.I am recommending it to all of my friends, visitors and residents of PV.Please Howard Johns, write more books about this magical place, which has become a second home.
