Perfect replacement part.
If you have a Vita-Mix Blender (mine is a Commercial Grade "VM0115A" T&G (touch and go) 2 Blending Station Part Number 34013) and need a replacement Drive Socket then this is your part! This socket works on all "Commercial" Grade Blenders, except the Food Processor "Vitamix XL". If you have a "Home" Grade (non-Commercial) model then you'll have to call Vitamix at 1-800-848-2649 to see if this is the right part for your Blender. I can find it around $10 at several places on the internet but the shipping charges were so high it's actually cheaper to order it here at Amazon. Especially if you get the Free Shipping option for an order over $25, or have Prime. I bought 2 so I have a spare and got Free Shipping. The Allen wrench comes with the part so there's no other tools needed. Takes 5 minutes to switch out the part. Instructions come with the part too. A word of advice to those that have never replaced these Drive Sockets before: get a second part because it is very easy to over tighten the set screw when initially installing the new part to the shaft. Also note that the alignment (angle) of the screw is slightly tipped upwards so if you are having a hard time getting the Allen wrench to line up to the Allen set screw just make sure this plastic Drive Sockets raised alignment arrow is first lined up to the opening in the blender housing (run your finger over the sockets outer edge if you're having a hard time seeing the arrow). Then very lightly turn the Allen wrench clockwise until it stops. DO NOT CONTINUE TIGHTENING THE SCREW because you can very easily strip out the threads of the plastic socket housing. Once it's stripped out the socket won't stay on the shaft. That's why I buy 2. I don't like the design that allows the part to strip out so easily but I guess that's why so many people need this part. Once it's tight, back off the screw 1/4 counter-clockwise turn and try to hand pull the Drive Socket up off the shaft. If the Socket stays in place then it's tightened correctly. Now turn it on to make sure it doesn't vibrate wildly. If it does vibrate you'll need to loosen up the screw and rotate the socket 90 degrees and retighten it again (don't forget the 1/4 counter-clockwise adjustment). Repeat as necessary. That's it- you're all ready to go. Margarita anyone? Update Nov.9,2014: If your looking for the part number of this socket Vitamix calls it part number 000891 (some places just refer it as "891") which gets you Qty 1. P/N 0155546 will get you Qty 2 (which I highly recommend since these will last about a year before they go bad), and P/N 015547 which will get you 5 pieces.

Excellent - worked like a charm and very easy to install!
After using my Vitamix 5200 at least once daily for the past 9 years, I began mixing my morning smoothie then the blades just stopped rotating, although the motor was still running. When I took the container off the base and turned the machine back on I noticed the drive socket (didn't know that was the name of the little round thingie in the top middle of the base until just this week) wasn't rotating. With Christmas only a couple weeks away, the thought of purchasing a new machine or sending mine off for weeks to be repaired was repugnant. Reason dictated that the motor itself seemed to be working just fine, so I began researching online to learn what to do and came across the Vitamix Drive Socket Kit here on Amazon. I read the reviews and decided it was certainly cheap enough to order the kit with 1-day shipping (so I could get back to my smoothies sooner - hopefully). As other reviews have stated the instructions were very clear and easy to follow -- plus installing the new drive socket totally corrected the problem! One thing not mentioned in recent reviews is that after the new drive socket is installed, the instructions recommend putting a small bead of silicone over the screw hole used to tighten the new socket. That's not something we keep on hand, however we were very careful when changing out the old drive socket not to destroy the old silicone -- we just gently held it away from the hole -- and were able to then just push it back into place. This kit is worth every penny if you problem is the drive socket! As long as your Vitamix motor is still working when you turn it on, and if the blades in the container have stopped spinning, this is definitely the first thing I would suggest trying!

Works with all Vitamix models (except Vitamix XL)
This part is compatible with the Vita-Mix® Total Nutrition Center® Whole Food Machine™ Model # VM0103 (see photo)--one of the earliest, if not earliest, home version of an industrial model sold at the time (1995). Although the current Vitamix drive socket model stands a bit higher than the original one made for the original Vitamix models of the 90s, it works fine. Instead of employing planned obsolescence to get consumers to throw away their old machines and spend lots of money on entire new machines, Vitamix has not only built machines that last, but newer models with parts that compatible with older models (e.g., containers and drive sockets). Packaging for the drive socket kit designated it as Item #000891 (see photo). The Vitamix website lists it as Part #000891 and states that it fits all Vitamix models except the Vitamix XL which uses Part # 015902. You might find the drive socket listed/advertised by some suppliers/dealers/retailers as Part #891 without the three leading 0s. Removing the drive socket from an old Vitamix machine such as the Model # VM0103 involves removing from its base two opposing rubber foot pads instead of the large single rubber centering pad on the newer models in order to properly leverage two flathead screwdrivers, but the same principle applies. (To see video demos of the large single rubber centering pad being removed from a newer model, search the Internet on, for example, "vitamix drive socket repair".) Attached is a photo showing an original drive socket for an old Vita-Mix® Model # VM0103 with worn-out shaft to the left of a brand new drive socket with metal lined shaft. How do you know if it's time to replace your drive socket? If the drive socket is wobbly and will spin without a container set on it and/or the blade of the container will turn unless there's something of considerable substance (food and/or liquid) in the container, it's probably time to change the drive socket. Read carefully the instructions that come with the drive socket kit before installing the new drive socket. As of the date of this review, there was available on the Internet a copy of instructions (in PDF format) included with drive socket kits. Removal of the drive socket involves unscrewing the setscrew. See attached photo showing the tiny hole in the housing (round wall on top of unit) through which the setscrew goes on a Model # VM0103. Those with newer Vitamix machines may find the hole on the side rather than the back of the housing. Tip: After unscrewing the setscrew and removing the drive socket, and before installing the new drive socket, screw in the setscrew until you see the inside end flush with the inside of the housing; that way, you won't have to turn the setscrew much more after installing and properly seating the new drive socket. Be particularly careful to turn the setscrew only to the point where it hits the drive shaft or stops moving, being careful not to overtighten--don't force it!--and then unscrewing the setscrew 1/4 turn, inserting a container, and testing out the machine. Replacing the drive socket yourself requires no more thought, effort or time than it takes to drive a vehicle to a gas station and refuel it at a self-serve pump. If anything, less effort.
