A FLUTE WITH SPIRIT
Any time I get the chance to buy Navajo art, I embrace it. This is a lovely flute; I am quite pleased with it. The voice is clear and round. The timbre of the lower register is mellow yet clear. The woodcraft is well done. There is a sense, or spirit of humility and generosity about the flute and the lovely little pamphlet that comes with it. Jonah shares the Emergence story of the Dine in such a quiet, but joyous way. The turkey feather adds to that grace note; the turkey is a generous, patient being. It is said that turkey was one of the last people to climb into a reed to emerge into the earth surface and that the flood waters surged around his tail, which is why his tail feathers are white. Jonah’s flute is a whole package, created in beauty. I recommend it.
