Needs separately supplied QC3.0 USB power supply. But charger itself is fantastic.
Great charger. Sadly had to return mine as the supplied special thick USB cable fell apart. The charger itself is actually superb. Gives a very clear view of the charging current and battery type. Just a shame it doesn’t have a built in AC mains adapter. There in-lies the problem, and it’s a huge one; you need a QC3.0 qualcomm 3 to 4 amp charger for this to really work correctly. Yes it will work on a standard 2.1 amp usb outlet but will take 8 to 10 hours to charge 4 18650’s! But not just that, if you use a QC3.0 power supply, you also need to make sure you use the supplied thick micro usb cable not a cheap old cable that came with a 10 year old phone. See, standard thin usb micro cables are not rated for 4amps of current. So when the included thick usb cable fell apart, I wasn’t happy using any other cable and couldn’t buy locally a thick enough micro usb to deliver 3 to 4 amps. What’s also odd is that QC3.0 usually use USB C connector cables, not usb Micro. So you can’t easily buy a micro usb cable with the correct current rating even online. This is seriously dangerous, as it means sooner or later someone is going to use a 500mAh rated micro usb cable on a QC3.0 or higher 4amp supply, and will end up with molten plastic and potentially a nasty fire. Be warned!!Such a shame as the charger itself is so good! If it had an ac adapter built in, it would be the best charger for 18650’s by a long, long way.

NOT SMART, SLOW CHARGER
Charging 4x AAA 2400mAh batteries over 24h! Not showing current battery Voltage! over a week of using it and 2 times screen was frozen. Not properly detecting the bad batteries. It was trying to charge the battery 48h and was not showing the error. When I tried to charge it for the third time then showed me an error. Not reliable charger. I would say a random charger. Because powered by USB which is only 5V the charging is so slow. Get the one powered from the socket!

very finicky
the right side has issues with charging having to re insert the batteries it often gets stuck on the mah and when it finishes the display sometimes doesn't flash as "full".not only this but it changes every time the battery gets inserted again getting stuck and not charging had a few issues with a battery stuck on either max voltage or the lowest and the battery level doesn't move.the original VC4 works fine when I tried the same batteries.I recommend the older one its very reliable by far.

Not very smart, hard to read dials on the display, can’t change voltage values.
Wasn’t too happy with this battery charger. I wanted one that would discharge batteries and be able to set the discharge voltage, but this charger can only do a charge>discharge>charge cycle to a preset voltage. It’s also difficult to read the display to show what capacity they’re charging at with the little dials on the display. Then sometimes it would just randomly switch off. Ended up returning it for a refund.

Potentially great charger let down by micro-usb
This is frustrating as it's a great charger with a daft requirement for a separate QC 3.0 charger (not supplied) and still uses micro-USB. This is puzzling as you would expect any charger purchased in 2021 to be using USB-C but obviously the design hasn't been updated for some time. It's annoying as aside from the need for a QC3.0 charger it's brilliant. If you don't have a QC 3.0 charger to hand you'll need to purchase one, as otherwise you are going to be looking at a very long time for things to charge!I love everything else about this charger - it handles everything I throw at it with no issues and the display is lovely and clear etc, but I can't help but think I should have looked elsewhere now.

charges but very slowly
Always used nitecore chargers, never had a problem decided to try a xtar charger, i will be sedning this back its terrible i put 4 x 20700's in my nitecore they charged in about 3 hours from pretty much drained, and put 2 x 201700 in the xTar to try out the faster charge well that was 6 hours ago and there still not charged. personbally wouldnt bother with this charger its way to slow at charging.

Sometimes throws a wobble
I had a nitecore d4 before this that showed it was charging a battery when no battery present so bought this XTAR.Sometimes throws a wobble shows charging but its not charging with batteries in place, the only way you know its not charging it takes all day and there not charged .So the only way i have found is to unplug and plug back in and replace batteries, the mode buttons are to close to where you put your thumb to take batteries in and out and accidentally press the buttons. If i had noticed this fault i would of returned but only realised after return period was up.My old nitecore d4 was used every day for 2 years i would still buy another nitecore.

Great charger but ..........
This is a very nice charger and it does exactly as the reviews say, but I am surprised that it is not mentioned how hot it gets on the bottom side when discharging cells. Make sure it is standing on a hard surface that wont be damaged by heat. It takes a long while to discharge whether using the 'Grad' mode that cycles through a full charge and discharge cycle or in 'Store' mode where it brings the cells to the correct voltage for long term storage. I am thinking of removing the base, to take a look to see if it is possible to fit a fan or possibly 3D print a new base that includes a fan.
