Residential Steel Framing Handbook

As a DIYer I used this book as a guide when building a shed with structural steel studs. I learnt a lot from this book,At times the author does come across as a metal framing salesman, pitching the virtues of steel again and again.

I study a building.Therefore this book is very good.

A very technical book. More for a engineering or a architect background than a tradesman. It does have a lot of detail diagrams which are helpful for tradesmen that are new to framing with metal studs. I did not like this book as much as Steel Frame House Construction, another book I purchased at the same time.

If you're looking for a book which can be used for a diyer to build a metallic frame shed or home, don't buy this book, it's one of the worst written book i've read, and it's completely outdated.

As a Civil Engineer wanting to design my own house in steel construction, this book is an excellent source to introduce the novice into cold formed steel. But it goes further than that. If you need crucial details on framing light gage steel into structural steel, this book has all that too. It has wall, floor, ceiling details, but its not overloaded with too many details. The text is highly readable. Its a easy read without being boring nor breezy as a lot of handbooks are. I therefore recommend this book to anyone in the market of housing design and construction, or commercial building who want to move away from lumber to light gage steel construction.
