He is one of those rare and gifted children's book authors who truly understands the odd, amazing and ever-so-fleeting world that children inhabit. His writing speaks directly to children with incredible wit, hilarity, wisdom and absurdity. He explores their dreams, hopes, fears and apprehensions through delightful metaphor, and without a drop of condescension (which children absolutely detest, and can usually smell from a mile away). From my own experience, I despaired that my 3rd grade daughter would ever pick up a book and read it cover-to-cover without the looming threat of punishment. But when I introduced her to Shel Silverstein's "A Light in the Attic" she took to it immediately. For the first time ever, I caught her up reading past her bed time and sneaking a book under her coat so she could read it in the car. She read "A Light in the Attic" it over and over. We soon purchased Shel Silverstein's other books, including "Falling Up", and my daughter loved them all. Most importantly, Shel Silverstein helped my daughter realize that reading can be fun and exciting, that it can inspire creativity, and that it can offer a window into other worlds and shared human experiences. Although she remains somewhat selective (in a way that I approve of - I don't expect her to like every book she is given, I certainly don't), my daughter has developed what I am confidant will be a life-long love of reading. And I thank the late Mr. Silverstein for the role he played in that! Review: Book left in a box on the porch in the rain - I was excited to get my book and game, but the package wasn’t wrapped in plastic and it was raining when it was delivered. I wish they would have knocked on the door to let me know it was there…sitting in the rain. We got it inside, but the box was soaked. The contents were not harmed however. Maybe next time you send out a book, ship it covered in plastic to preserve the contents. 🥰 it’s a hard cover book with great poems and beautiful illustrations throughout. This author is wonderful, and I bought this one for my 13 year old granddaughter and “Where the Sidewalk Ends”(same author) for my 9 yr old grandson, who loves to read…both are Christmas gifts, and I recommend any of Shel Silverstein’s for anyone of any age🫶🏼

An interesting and enjoyable book to read. If you are a Shel Silverstein fan you will love this volume.
This is the third hardcover book I have read (Falling Up: Poems and Drawings by Shel Silverstein) by this author. As I have mentioned previously, this author has an original and unique talent to create unusual poems spiced with his drawings making his books interesting reads. I enjoyed this volume the most out of the three books I have read by Silverstein. Each of the wonderful poems also includes the author’s own original and unique drawings. The combination makes for a fun to read book for both adults and younger readers. Like a lot of Silverstein’s books, there are messages and lessons of life we can all relate to reading his poetic words. I really liked most of the poems in this volume, but some of my favorites in this book include the following: Sun hat, snow ball, unfair, crystal ball, no thank you, safe, my robot, sidewalking, Pinocchio, big eating contest, bad cold, people zoo, hypnotized, mirror, mirror, haunted, a battle in the sky, the mummy, a cat, a kid, and a mom, Lyin Larry, no, the smile makers and when I was your age. If you are a Shel Silverstein fan you will love this book. I found it to be refreshing, amusing and entertaining. Rating: 5 Stars. Joseph J. Awesome
These books are meant for memories. First, you read them to the children and then they read them to you.

Best Baby Shower Gift
I had three baby showers in the span of one month and I gave the same gift to all three. I gave them Falling Up, Where the Sidewalk Ends, and A Light in the Attic by Shel Silverstein. My dad would read these books to my sisters and I before bed. I take these three books, tie them up with some nice string and a tie it in a bow (no wrapping paper) and put a card on top. These books were a complete hit with all three soon-to-be parents and everyone else in attendance. Such a great book!
