~ Cyndi Lauper's 2 CD Career Spanning Set up to 1997 is fabulous, sound is superb ~
This is basically Cyndi's music from the '80s and '90's. I have been following Cyndi since her smash debut in 1983 and at the time, she was more popular than Madonna's debut the same year. I was in high school at the time, and it is true. Cyndi's videos of "Girl's Just Wanna Have Fun", "Time After Time", "She Bop" were on MTV continuously. There are a few versions of her songs that are not on this set.A "Girl's Just Wanna Have Fun" version that is completelydifferent is found on "TWELVE DEADLY CYNS" CD.The "She Bop" Remix version that is more instrumental in the beginning is also found there. The Album version found on "SHE'S SO UNUSUAL" is the one track here on this set.I would highly recommend you get her debut "SHE'S SO UNUSUAL" with the Live tracks and the"12 Deadly Cyns" CD as well. Sound on those 2 are decent, although the debut CD with the Live tracks sounds a bit loud, to me anyway. Still a great album.Liner notes for this 2 CD set are skimpy, but the photos of Ms. Cyndi are fabulous, because she really looked like that in the 1980s. It made her what she was as an '80s ICON. She is one of the ladies I always look to when referring to that decade in popular music. She really made an impact as well as many others. Cyndi made her music all her own and didn't copy anyone. She has her own style and way to put down the lyrics. Thanks Ms. Cyndi for all the music over the years and I continue to be impressed by your vocal talent still after 35 years on the music scene!CD 1 is 18 songs...RED colored CD.CD 2 is 18 songs...BLACK colored CD.

A new generation turned on to Cyndi's music.
This CD was purchased for my one of my adult children--who came home one day from his workplace stating "I want/need the Cyndi Lauper cd-- True Colors, I listened to it and I like every song," (criteria insisted upon, given his frequent need for "new" cd's). Oh yes did I mention that he happens to be Special Needs where one of his issues is a severe speech impediment?? Imagine my surprise as I repeated back to him "you're saying you want the Cyndi Lauper CD?" He repeated that he knew and liked every song, and then I had the misfortune of him (and this is extremely painful to one's ears) out of key, not hitting any correct note on any song--sing to me a number of Cyndi's songs. As the blood dripped out of my ears, I hobbled to the computer to see if this purchase was possible. For the next few days, he nagged me about it and wouldn't stop singing a medley of Cyndi's songs. From my hospital room at Mass Eye and Ear--(yes, I'm joking, but my ears did feel as if I had bilateral bleeding...) I managed to order this much needed and wanted music, for my son, who's feet wouldn't touch the ground once the cd arrived, and he's still fanatically listening to it!!!!!

Fantastic collection, with a very few caveats.
This budget 2-CD compilation from Australia is an almost perfect overview of Cyndi Lauper's career, and features practically every hit single, plus some album cuts you may not have thought about before. The Pros:1. The sound mastering seems pretty good to my amateur ears. Not sure what audiophiles would think, but I didn't really notice any issues.2. A generous helping of 36 tracks. Disc 1 contains most of the hits. Every track from the US issue of The Essential Cyndi Lauper is here, and many more. This collection covers Cyndi's career from She's So Unusual to Sisters Of Avalon .3. A few rarities are found here too - namely The World Is Stone, Hole In My Heart, and The Goonies 'R' Good Enough. The Cons:1. I think a few more tracks could have fit onto this collection - namely the singles "Ballad Of Cleo And Joe," "Disco Inferno," "Into The Nightlife," "At Last," "Shine," and maybe one of the tracks from The Body Acoustic , which would have truly made this a career-spanning retrospective, not to mention providing an additional rarity, since as far as I know, "Disco Inferno" has only been available on CD single and the soundtrack to A Night At The Roxbury . This collection was released in 2009, but doesn't go past 1997, ignoring three (four if you count the Japanese release of Shine ) studio albums between 1997 and 2009.2. The insert contains no information on the songs whatsoever, and the biography isn't that well-written. Very minor quibble, this is a compilation from Sony's budget label, but I've definitely seen budget releases go the extra mile for their inserts.3. This could be either a pro or a con, depending on how you look at it. Two almost-complete albums are included. "911" and "One Track Mind" are the only songs from True Colors that aren't on here, and almost the entire A Night To Remember album is presented in sequence on disc 2, with the exception of the intro, title track, "Insecurious," and "I Drove All Night," the latter of which is on disc 1. While these songs are all fantastic, these albums are still readily available - do we need two near complete albums taking up space that could have been filled by more singles and a few more rarities? If you want a great overview of Cyndi's career, you'll be hard-pressed to find anything much better. Despite the fact that it ignores anything she did after 1997 and contains two almost-complete albums that are readily available, as opposed to making more room for singles and rarities, this collection still outdoes The Essential by a mile by giving you everything from that collection and more.

Splendid Collection!
This double CD album was released exclusively in Australia and is, unfortunately, not readily available in the US. It's a shame, as this collection is far superior to that hot mess of a compilation known as "The Essential Cyndi Lauper".I'd 'almost' say that this album replaces "Twelve Deadly Cyns" except 'Come On Home' and the 'Hey Now' version of 'Girls Just Want To Have Fun' are not included. No big loss! However, 'I'm Gonna Be Strong' didn't make the cut, either! That was disappointing! But in all fairness, the song was a Blue Angel single, prior to Cyndi's solo career. Any true Cyndi fan should have a copy of "Twelve Deadly Cyns" in their record collection anyway! There's not much else to be said about this one. If you can find a copy of "True Colours The Best Of", GET IT! You will not be disappointed!
