A wonderful convenience for soft-cooked eggs. Heavy-duty, quality construction. Purchased additional sets as gifts for family members, to encourage consumption of eggs.Updated 7/27/2016: After about a month of regular use, the spot weld failed that joins the metal shank to the cup that is placed over the egg. The failure occurred just days after the allowable return period expired. The topper is now useless. Rating has been adjusted to reflect this experience.

I love it! I love the design; very elegant.And it works. I usually drop the ball twice. It gives a neat cut and it is easy to lift the shell off.It's also fun as a conversation starter at breakfast with guests.It arrived on time and was well packaged.

Soft boiled eggs are great but I end up eating shells sometimes because I hit the eggs to hard when opening them. This works great, I drop the ball on the stem twice and it cracks the shell beautifully. Not only that, it's fun.

This is by far the best Egg Topper I have seen and used. Worked like a charm until I did my 10th Egg. The shaft broke away from the cup. and revealed an imperfect connection, rendering the device useless. Is there anyway to get it replaced with one that could have a longer life?

Simply does not work for me and my Arizona organic brown large eggs.I put it on crown of the egg, lifted the weight, let the weight go, and... and... the egg shell is completely intact.If i attempt to cut at the slight score the device made with a knife - the shell on both sides of the score mark cracks (making for a very messy soft boiled egg). If I attempt a second drop from the top - the shell cracks (with messy results for soft boiled egg). If I attempt a second drop from 3/4 up - egg shell cracks (messy soft boiled egg). If I attempt a second drop from 1/2 way up - nothing. I guess the chickens here in Arizona aren't compatible with this contraption. I'll be sticking with a sharp knife making an X at the top of my soft boiled eggs and pealing back with a spoon - thanks for nothing.

Product arrived with absolutely no instructions or usage suggestions. Fortunately, many reviewers made some information available that helped us get started. Works pretty well most of the time. Egg size and shell thickness varies the success rate. Qualify of construction seems very good.

The ball is not stainless steel, it rusts horribly. I didn't want to bother returning, I wipe it clean instead of washing.

First saw this type of gizmo used in our hotel in Tokyo. It is SO slick! If you want to eat the egg straight out of the shell or easily remove it after soft boiling, this tool is a must! Durable and wonderfully engineered, easy to clean and store. It works with gravity. The shell is uniformly cracked around the crown and then you gently lift off the cap. Works well with soft or hard boiled eggs. Brilliant!
