Imagining the Modern: Architecture and Urbanism of the Pittsburgh Renaissance

Yinzer Approved!
I devoured this book about my adopted hometown! The text, photography and diagrams are first rate and offer a fascinating look at the re-invention of Pittsburgh during its first Renaissance! I have taken deep dives into the built history of the Steel City, but this book revealed stories about buildings that I never would have imagined. I would recommend to anyone interested in Pittsburgh history, or Modern Architecture in general. I think this book sufficiently approachable to casual readers of architecture, while having enough depth to lend value to researchers and students of architecture.

A well researched and inclusive look at Pittsburgh's urban renewal period
Another great volume about the social rationale and consequences of modern architecture. Following their previous work "Heroic", I had high hopes for this book, and these expectations were exceeded. Excellent period photography and renderings accompanies an account of Pittsburgh's urban renewal period, emphasizing the role of private corporations and the tribulations of Lower Hill residents. The "salons" and presentations which accompanied the publication of this book are also presented, bringing a local voice into the concluding dialogue.
