Cyborg II - DVD

Funny is a great way to describe this
I wouldn't exactly call myself a Angelina Jolie fan but I would say that I like her acting. I especially liked her role in Girl Interrupted and other films out there. She always had something about her that made her such a great actress. Cyborg 2 is one of Jolie's earliest film and it showed many great qualities about her that were better used in later films. I believe she was 18, 19 when this film came out so that really sets it apart from other films out there by her.In any event, Cyborg 2 is something I watched only because I liked the first Cyborg with Van Damme and the fact Angelina is in it. What I found was two things: this movie is horribly cheesy and secondly it has nothing to do with the original Cyborg plot. In early segments of this film, Jolie was doing some karate moves on people and it looked horribly bad. It seems like she was asked if she could crouch down and move one of her legs sideways and that passed as a "martial artist" where they used it in the film. It went about 1mph in the knee sweep kick.I felt the movie's greatest problem wasn't the the horrible acting... it was the story. A little bit of everything was in the film and the movie's frequent changing of key plot points seem to have made it weak overall. Jolie played a cyborg who was suppose to be the top of the line model. Jolie was supposed to gain the affection of key corporate executives and simply detonate when they are alone. Setting the obvious questions here aside about why they'd need to do that and not simply call a hit on them, it was a story line. The story later translated to something else where Jolie escaped the lab where she was made with one of her trainers. From that point on more things happened and ultimately the last theme was love.Throughout the movie, Jolie and her partner were being followed by a homicidal maniac bounty hunter. The fights were so silly that I couldn't stop laughing. One scene they were fighting a game of death at a boat race. I thought at first when they said there was a boat, I thought it was a race and couldn't figure out what was going on. I then realized that the "race" was actually a fight that happens next to a boat propeller. There's four propellers and they turn on one at a time after some interval. The fight was simply horrible and for whatever reason the winner gets the only working boat... the same boat that they used in the game of death. Seems rather silly in the future there's one working boat, and that boat could easily be used to smuggle people to safety and make a lot of money, but yet they use it to do fights.Don't get me started on Jack Palance's character. Jack plays as a good guy who helped Jolie and her partner escape. He also wants them to be in love since he understands this feeling because he was married to a cyborg as well. The way Jack talks to them is through TV where only his mouth is shown in an inverted black and white filter. If you ever had old film strips and you got "negatives" that looked weird, that's basically what Jack looked like in the TV while speaking to Jolie and her partner. Near the end of the movie, Jolie and her partner had a love scene, and Jack was up in his room looking at photos of his dead cyborg wife and he was crying. The scene kept switching between Jack crying with the photo, and a naked Jolie making love to her partner. In the background was a slow song that was a bit sad. The scene looked incredibly perverted rather than sad. The switch between Jack crying and Jolie love making made it seem like Jack was spying on them, and he was crying that he couldn't get any.By the end of the movie, Jolie and her partner gets married and live happily ever after. In the background you can hear Jack character's voice talking about the story. Anyway Jolie remains youthful forever, while her partner gets old and dies. From what I understand, there is a Cyborg 3 out that follows this plot point where another actress plays Jolie's role. I didn't watch that nor do I want to.Overall Cyborg 2 is fairly funny. Jack Palance's character was just silly and Jolie's acting was okay in this film. I recommend purely to see Jolie's early role.

The gist of it (and it has Angilina in it WOW!!!)
One of Angelina's earliest but you can already see the budding star in creation. All the tilted chin and flashing eyes are starting to appear. The story is about the future earth and how we create cyborgs for different functions, love, companionship and even soldiers to fight instead of people. Well of course the military as run by the government has decided to create love cyborgs and put bombs in them then send them to people they don't want to...be around. The problem is that one of the cyborg creators has fallen in love with his creation and decided to save her (Angelina). The only problem is that the plant is heavily guarded and so are all their escape routes so now the question is how to escape a heavily guarded plant with a beautiful 200+ pound plus cyborg?

It's just that she is a very good actress. Very Good
I'd give it five stars just for having Angelina Jolie in it, but alas that would mean the entire movie was five-star rated... NOT! I've not see all her movies, but the ones I have seen deserve a five-star rating. This one, two stars, and that's being generous because of Angelina Jolie. What? You think I have a crush on Angelina Jolie? I don't think so. It's just that she is a very good actress. Very Good! But this was a cheesy movie. It rates right there equal to Cyborg (Jean-Claude Van Damme, Deborah Richter) on the cheesy-scale, but the first Cyborg was much better done and at least it was not all darkness outside. This one never saw the light of day.Sorry, I'm being too generous by giving it two stars.

Perhaps Jack Palance's finest film next to City Slickers
Perhaps Jack Palance's finest film next to City Slickers. Impeccable storytelling, great cast and amazing twist ending that will leave you thinking about it for days. Angelina Jolie also stars but quite often is out shined by the oscar worthy performance by Palance. A must watch film for anyone looking for great science fiction action!

Sequel to Jean Claude Van Damme Cyborg movie
Never knew there was a sequel to the original---it was an interesting sci-fi action movie with a young Angelina Jolie as the Cyborg. Billy Drago makes an interesting bounty hunter. The plot is a well known tech company decides to use their cyborgs as weapons without their knowledge.
