Life Lessons From The Hive

Its hard to find a book to read with your children that will capture the attention of the adult and the child. I found it in this book! I read a chapter a night to my 8 year old son and he really loves it and listens to each chapters lesson. He is afraid of bees so this was helpful for easing his fears. In addition, we have been able to apply biblical principles to his everyday 8 year old life in a way that hits home. He is on a baseball team that unfortunately loses many games and the chapter of the 'Hive' really helped him understand that win or lose....each bee (player) has a job to do.....and work together for the good of the colony (team)....and cannot give up. The 'Ouch' chapter also was a favorite that addressed the power of words. We applied it to the typical sibling fighting he has with his 5 year old brother and the importance of stinging words. Overall, a wonderful book to share with your children.

I began reading this as a kind of devotional and then while visiting a friend of ours, we discovered he had begun beekeeping. He shared enthusiastically what he was learning about bees and I began to tell him about this book. Naturally, the book took on a whole new meaning as we helped our friend build and paint his new hives and talked about bees and their habits. As we exchanged our findings in the few days we were with him, the spiritual lessons from this book and what we were seeing up close became so much more real. This is a fun and informative book, but more than that - it really does have life lessons for each of us. It is an easy read and one book you'll be glad you opened.

M. J. Miller's "Life Lessons from the Hive" is a beautifully written collection of lessons she's learned about faith, community, and the Kingdom of God through her experiences as a beekeeper. The lessons are awe-inspiring when considering the complexities of the hive, yet comforting when considering that God, the Designer and Creator of such an intricate thing, has detailed designs and plans for the success and health our lives, individually and in community with other believers. M. J.'s ability to describe a part of our world that not many of us have the opportunity or courage to explore is a precious gift. To help us see God in it is priceless.

As a child growing up on a farm, I often traipsed behind my beekeeping grandfather as he donned his gear and made his way with careful and deliberate movements throughout the bee yard. It was a mysterious performance. In Life Lessons from the Hive, MJ Miller brings back that childhood memory for me, explaining the mysteries while reminding us that if God creates, loves and cares for these industrious and vulnerable creatures, how much greater is His love and care for us. Her folksy conversational style makes a delightful and easy read for all ages.

Great book! In reading this book, I not only learned new things about bees and beekeeping, but even more about how God is intertwined in our lives more than we can imagine. This book is simple to read and yet is so deep in the message it has about God. At the end of each chapter there are great questions for self reflection. This is a great book for a daily devotional, bible study, or just a nice read that allows for spiritual growth.

I have known Ms. Miller for several years and when she told she was writing a book I so looked forward to the release. The insight and comparision to the life of bees and the Kingdom of God is spot on. I continue to review certain chapters that reflect what is currnetly going on in my life today. My understanding of bees and the Kingdom of God has been greatly enhanced. I'm looking forward to her next book. I highly recommend this book.

I loved this book! It is for EVERYONE and I can’t wait for my 10 and 12 year old to read it. You do not have to have any interest in bees in order to enjoy this book. However, I don’t think you can come away and not be changed in your thinking or awakened to the parallels of bees and the Kingdom of God. Bees have a strong sense of purpose, community and live sacrificially. We have much to learn to learn from them.

I finally found the time to sit down and read Life Lessons from the Hive by MJ Miller. I must say it changed my perspective on my Christian life and my attitude toward life lessons from my bible.I read over my bible so many times but MJ reintroduced me to the hope of my Lord and the daily purpose His word has to teach and lead me in his ways.Thanks MJ Miller. Can’t wait for the next adventure
