This Photo Tripod Adaptor has a full 2" x 2" (4 sq. inches) low profile (1/2 inch) attachment pad with the tripod. This is much more contact area with the tripod than other similar product. The tripod attachment pad is often made of a flexible material like rubber. Our attachment pad is made with solid aluminum to allow the tighten force to spread over a larger area. This means a stronger attachment. The low profile attachment pad means less leverage to flex. Also, bigger contact area means less likely to flex. The telescope will stand on the large attachment pad. You can place the telescope on a flat surface without removing the adaptor. The telescope can and will stand on the big foot adaptor without tipping over on a flat surface. The telescope with other adaptor will not stand on it own without tipping over because of the small attachment contact area. You have to either remove the adaptor immediately or let the telescope lie on its side. What a pain! This photo tripod adapter is compatible with any photo/video tripod with a standard 1/4"-20 thread screw. The top plate is made of polycaronate which its common usages include space and sports helmets, clear high performance windshields and aircraft canopies, and bullet resistant windows. Very hastily made with no deburring and many sharp edges.
Poorly presented, but it does work despite how sloppy it's made. Edges should be deburred.

Works great.
This adapter works great and is simple to install. It's probably a bit over priced for what it is, but it's better than wasting your money on the crappy tripod that Meade sells for the ETX line of scopes. I used this adapter to put my scope of a very sturdy photographic tripod that I have. Very satisfied in the stability and ease of use now.

Great Adapter Plate
The Photo Tripod Adapter for Meade Telescopes work great, does just what it is designed to do. It is a bit over priced for what it is made of and the shipping cost is way too much. the shipping cost was $4.87, The item weight is only 8 oz. It was shipped from Las Vegas, NV. to Seattle, WA. and the postage was only $0.51 thats a $4.36 mark up just in postage alone. I like the item but I went to ACE hardware and the price of the material you would need to make it your self, was about a third of the cost of this item without shipping. But then again it does just what it is designed to do and not everyone have the time, tools or skill to do it on their own.

It Works!
This product works and will save you almost $300 for a Meade tripod. My only complaint is that it is not trimmed to fit the round base of Meade 'scopes. This I can do myself, so not necessarily a problem. This is not your "deluxe" model. It is just a square piece of polyvinyl with a small square block of aluminum glued to the center. But it works.

Does what it says, and no issues with steadiness, though I'm not sure why they didn't round off the edges to fit the telescope base.

pretty simple. Not hard to make but saves you some time and a trip to the hardware store. Be sure tripod is heavy duty. Would not trust this with a telescope on a cheap tripod.

It works
If you already have a solid tripod this somewhat primitive adapter does work. Yes, as another reviewer mentioned, it is not round like the base of the telescope but aside from making one your self this appears to be the only relatively inexpensive way to avoid buying the Meade tripod (which does not receive very good ratings).
