Molly Hatchet

The key to any CD is will it get played and that isn’t an issue with this one. She is happy with it and it gets played quite often. Her happiness with it matters as that is the whole point of buying any CD. One that collects dust isn’t worth your time. One that gets played is worthy CD. This may sound overly simple, but it isn’t when you consider the expense of owning it. It is only worthwhile if it is played and enjoyed by the purchaser. It is in her case and that is what I call a very successful CD purchase. Hope you have success with your purchase. It’s only worthy if it is loved and played. What are you waiting for? Good buy hatchets best

I must admit I avoided Molly Hatchet for years because WAY back I mistakenly assumed they were heavy metal (at least for back then in the early '80s)--wrong, of course. Then I heard that they were just lame Skynyrd ripoffs--wrong again! I'd been familiar with the song "Flirtin' With Disaster" for many years, since that was their only really big hit, but I assumed it was probably the only decent song they had--WRONG!!! Better late than never....after hearing this debut album of theirs, I've been kicking myself for not buying it 25 years ago. It smokes! Great songs, great musicianship, great singing from Danny J.B.....a winner on all counts! As for supposedly being Skynyrd ripoffs, that is a very narrow-minded and unfair accusation. Yes, it is obvious that the similarities are there. You'll hear a guitar riff, a melody, or a lyric that is obviously taken straight from a Skynyrd song, but I prefer to look at MH as a tributary to Skynyrd, not a knockoff. Their coming onto the scene in 1978--right after the Skynyrd plane crash--was perfect timing....a perfect time to take hold of the torch from Skynyrd in producing great southern rock in honor of Skynyrd, not in spite of them. Any Skynyrd fan, with this more positive attitude in mind, will LOVE the first two Molly Hatchet albums!!!After the second album though (Flirtin' With Disaster), things started going downhill. Danny J.B.'s replacement just didn't have that classic Southern sound, if you ask me. And even when Danny Joe came back in 1985, things still didn't improve, song-wise. I bought their CD "No Guts, No Glory" from that year, and it's TERRIBLE. The only good song is "Fall of the Peacemakers." So as a fan of quality southern rock, I only recommend the Hatchet's first two albums and their live Double Trouble CD from 1985 (most of the material on that is the good stuff from the '70s and it SMOKES). You won't be disappointed with those! They have a live CD from 1979 as well, and the material is great, but the mix is pretty bad.

When this album came out I was in highschool and the late great Ronnie Van Zant was gone. All I can say is thank Odin for Molly Hatchet, at that moment they were just what I needed to keep rockin until the 80's started. As musicians they were technically far better guitar players than skynyrd could have ever hoped to have been. I witnessed this live in Philly when they sold out 3 shows in a row, they were just as good live as they were on their albums, but when the late Danny Joe Brown left the band after the first 2 albums, it was the beginning of the end for them. The 80's came along and musical taste was changing including mine and by the time Danny came back the southern rock era was dead, and new wave and MTV had taken over which turned out to be rocks last great decade.In the 90's rap, rap rock and a depressing suicidal artist named kurt cobain put the final nails in the rock and roll coffin and it don't look like rocks ever coming back again. I'm so glad I grew up in the seventies, the phoney hippie Woodstock movement was dead and gone and groups like deep purple, Black Sabbath, Zepplin, Skynyrd etc. were thriving.Those were the days and I was there.Hail Odin!!!!!!!!!

Purchased this as an anniversary gift for my husband. He was thrilled with the album. Excellent condition.

I was only interested in the cover because I like to frame them for display. This one looks amazing hanging in my home.

Oktober 1977 stürzte eine Convair 240 bei einer versuchten Notlandung in der Nähe von Gillburg/Mississipi in einen Wald..........durch den Crash wurden der Pilot Walter McCreary, Co-pilot William Gray, der Sänger und Mastermind der Gruppe "Lynyrd Skynard", Ronnie Van Zant, der Gitarrist Steve Gaines, die Sängerin Cassie Gaines und der Assistant road manager Dean Kilpatrick getötet. Die überlebenden Mitglieder der Gruppe erlitten zum Teil schwere Verletzungen. Durch dieses Unglück hatte der "Southern Rock" seine mit Abstand bedeutendsten Protagonisten verloren. Wer sollte (zunächst) ihr schweres Erbe antreten?Mit "Molly Hatchet" stand ein würdiger Nachfolger bereits in den Startlöchern. Die von Gitarrist und Songwriter Dave Hlubek und Steve Holland bereits 1971 ebenfalls in Jacksonville/Florida gegründete Gruppe, die sich nach einer Prostituierten aus dem 17. Jahrhundert,(die ihre Freier enthauptete) nannte, brauchte jedoch noch bis in nächste Jahr, bis sie ihr selbstbetiteltes Debütalbum veröffentlichte. Gegenüber anderen Südstaatengruppen, wie z. B. den Outlaws, der Sound stark von der Countrymusic beeinflusst war, lieferten Molly Hatchet eine explosive Mixtur aus Boogie, Blues, Hardrock und Jazz. Ihr Musik beschrieb neben den typischen Werten und Hoffnungen auch die Exzesse der Jugend in einer Südstaatenmetropole wie Jacksonville........neben dem Sänger Danny Joe Brown (1951 - 2005), dem Drummer Bruce Crump und dem Bassisten Banner Thomas, wartete die Gruppe mit 3 (!) Gitarristen auf; Dave Hlubek, Steve Holland und Duane Roland (1953 - 2006). Ein berittener Krieger zierte das erste einer Reihe martialischer Plattencover, die zu einem Markenzeichen der Gruppe sollten.Bis auf "Dreams I'll Never See" (6), dass Gregg Allman geschrieben hat, stammen alle Songs aus der Feder von Bandmitgliedern. Die mehr als dreiminütige Instrumentalüpassage halte ich für eine der besten des Southernrock. "Gator Country" (2) lässt ebenfalls stellenweise stark an die Allman Brothers erinnern. Zur Beschleunigung der Gitarrensoli hat man sich bei "Bounty Hunter" (1) etwas besonders ausgedacht.Ein einschneidender Pfiff, der nunmehr viele Stücke der Gruppe begleiten wird. Auch beim jazzigen Stil von "Big Apple" (3) kommen E-Gitarrenfans auf ihre Kosten. "The Creeper" (4) und "The Price You Pay" (5) sind zwei Blues-Rocknummer, die letztgenannte mit einer Harmonikapassage. Während "I'll Be Running" (7) und das härtere "Cheatin' Woman" (8) typische Beispiele für die rockige Gangart der Gruppe darstellen, weist "Trust Your Old Friend" (9) R'nR-Elemente vor.Die einstigen Mollys Duane Roland und Steve Holland, Drummer Bruce Crump gründeten im Jahre 2005 zusammen mit dem Bassisten Riff West und dem Sänger Jim Farrar, in Anlehnung an Song "Gator Country" (2) die gleichnamige Gruppe. Duane Roland spielte außerdem bei "The Southern Rock Allstars", die sich in Muscle Shoals (vgl. Songtext in Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Sweet Home Alabama"!) zusammentaten. Mit wechselden Linups ist Band-Gründer Dave Hlubek bis zum heutigen Tage unterwegs.5 Amazonsterne für ein zeitloses Juwel des Southernrock!

Die CD ist in hervorragendem Zustand und entspricht komplett meinen Erwartungen!
