Unique features essential for marine use
I purchased this radio for safety purposes while boating on the Mississippi River, but I have found that this Radioddity VHF marine radio also will be an essential tool for my search and rescue team. This radio is laden with features that you will find essential when you are boating on any body of water. First of all, this radio is equipped with standard marine radio features such as NOAA weather channel reception (very easy by just pushing the "channel" switch). It's waterproof, which is great, but the one really great feature -- which I don't hope to test! -- if you drop the radio in water, the radio is capable of draining water away from the speaker if you activate the vibration function. A vibrating beep tone sounds for nine seconds to drain the water off the speaker. That's pretty cool. The radio also has a flashing red LED on its bottom that will flash if the radio is floating on water, to help you find it and recover it. One feature I really like is the tag scan function. You "tag" (click) on channels you wish to scan, and the radio will scan through those designated channels. It works very well! You also can place the radio into priority scan so that it samples emergency/calling Channel 16 during tag scan so you don't miss any important calls while out on the water. The one function I appreciate for search and rescue use is the dual-channel and tri-channel watch. This allows you to monitor a designated channel, while also keeping watch on Channel 16 or Channel 16 and one other channel, such as Channel 9. The radio scans through the two or three channels so you don't miss any important calls. If you want to keep watch on the weather while out on the water, this radio also will keep an ear on the local NOAA channels for weather watches and warnings so you can react appropriately to the alerts. In using this radio, all stations heard came in clear, and every other user reported this radio was received loud and clear on their end. The power is adequate for all use on the water. Our search and rescue team will continue to use this radio for marine communications so that we can monitor more than one channel at a time to keep in touch with various teams out on the river. If this radio is solid enough for search and rescue field use, it's good for your personal use, too.

Works as expected
I lost the charging cable and was unable to find a new one. Radioddity customer service department went out of their way to help me try and find one. With all the supply chain problems nothing was available so they arranged for me to return my old radio and sent me a new one. They were textbook perfect and couldn’t have done anything better. I would highly recommend buying anything they sell.

New mariner friendly
Purchased the radio as our first at-sea radio. While some features are still a little complicated to understand, for the most part, the radio was set and forget and just does its job. Easy enough to use to hand off to anyone within reach in an emergency.

Overpriced child's toy
We bought this radio for use in the cockpit on our sailing trips off the coast of California. The first two day trip it worked fine. The next two day trip (one month later), it quit transmitting and receiving on day two. The battery was sufficiently charged and we turned it on and off multiple times to no avail. Our boat radio picked up all of the radio traffic in the exact same location in the ocean that this radio was picking up the day prior. We attempted to hail our own boat radio several times and that's how we know it wasn't transmitting either. Then, right at the end of the day, it started to receive again. We were done trying to transmit and done with this radio. The customer service for this company is absolutely horrible. I'm pretty sure they are in China and can not grasp simple explanations of the problem. On top of that YOU CAN NOT CALL THEM!! THEY ARE EMAIL ONLY!! They were obviously of little help. In their defense, after about a half dozen emails back and forth they offered the option to return it through Amazon. You can buy a Standard Horizon or ICOM from West Marine for about the same price. Both of those companies have customer service support via phone and have much better reputations. The only reason I didn't buy from there first was the fact that I needed it within a certain time and Amazon Prime was the only option. Save yourself the headache and buy something that isn't going to leave you high and dry on the water.

Easy to use, Built really well.
I usually don't review items but I have enjoyed this radio so much I feel I should. Let me start out by saying that I am Technology challenged. It has to be simple to use or I simply give up on it like I did my previous marine radio. This radio is so easy to set up and use that is an absolute joy to use. The setup took me about 5 minutes . Out on the boat it comes in crystal clear and the people I have talked to said it was clear on their end. What else can I say.It is ruggedly built, it is easy to use and it works great. You simply cant go wrong with this radio.
