Dari as a Second Language
Seldom is a book written that has the immediate impact of this volume. Sayed Naqubullah takes the novice Dari learner from ignorance to conversational aptitude in one volume. The tools and knowledge found in the volume will prepare any serious student of Dari with what is needed to hit the streets of Afghanistan running, the only drawback being the lack of listening materials, but this is made up for by the use of romanizational pronunciation guides until the student is capable of reading and pronouncing the Dari script without their use. While other texts disregard the Dari script altogether, the author knows the importance of being able to read as well as speak the target language. His intro to the script and practice with the script puts the student at ease and quickly reading Dari for herself. Recommended highly for military and civilian learners alike.

Excellent Book
Really helped me reestablish my reading and writing skills.

Attempts to progress too quickly..
This goes from 0 to 100 too quickly. Yes, it will teach you some basic words, but it goes from basic words to having you translating huge amounts of dari script very quickly. If you want to go to Afghanistan either take a class, or get a phrasebook. I actually learned more from the dari phrasebook than I did from this.

Good beginners book.

Perfect for the beginner
The book had phrases that incorporated the correct Dari style and meaning. My kids used the book to learn the every day greetings, general conversation, and adaptable phrases (with some knowledge of vocabulary words) for most conversations.

This book taught me the Farsi/Dari alphabet and got me somewhat proficient. Helped a lot with grammar and vocabulary and was a great filler between bugging my Tarjooman for crash courses in Farsi/Dari.

I've been using this book for three months, and have found it very useful as a beginning student of this language.

Poorly edited
This book was poorly edited and typeset; with font changes occuring regularly throughout. The exercises frequently contained vocabulary that had not been previously encountered, which was very confusing. The entire book would benefit from being proof-read by someone with a good command of English.Worst of all, the reader is encouraged to write in the textbook, making the entire book useless on a second reading.I cannot identify a readership group for whom this would be a worthwhile purchase.

Do not buy this book. Shame on the author and the publisher!
Awfully edited book. Looks like the author is not really familiar with Dari himself, so how could anybody start learning the language using this book? Some words have wrong translations or transcriptions. Sometimes one transcription is given, next time another. It is really shame that this book has ever been printed and presented as a textbook for people who want to learn Dari as a second language. The worst textbook I have ever seen with way too many mistakes.

User friendly - great quality
I love the layout of this book. It is very easy to understand and great quality. It is very large, though. I hadn't checked the dimensions and was expecting a regular sized book.
