Easily the best drone on the market
First thing to mention. This drone meets all the FAA requirements recently set out so you MUST register this drone with the FAA.I've played around with toy drones like the Syma 5XC and decided to get a larger professional drone for photography purposes. The Muvi X-Drone came up during Amazons black Friday week for half its list price so decided to go with this rather than the DJI which I was initially going to get. There were no reviews at the time so this was going to be a bit of a gamble. Long story short, nearly every time I fly the Muvi X-Drone, it loses connection with the controller and goes into automatic landing mode. I am always apprehensive when I fly it, not knowing how far/high I can go before it I lose complete control of the drone. With this in mind I decided to get DJI Phantom 3 Pro as everything that I've read basically says that this is the drone to get (as long as it doesn't break as apparently DJI customer service is a nightmare, but touch wood, nothing has went wrong with it yet). The DJI Phantom 3 pro comes nicely packaged and well padded in its large box and includes everything you need to get you flying including a spare set of propellers. Assembly is very easy. Basically just charge the battery and controller, twist on the props and you are ready to go. Well almost. You will most likely also need to download a firmware update from DJI and install that on both the drone itself and the controller. Finding the firmware on the DJI site is easy enough and also upgrading the drone is easy. Just download the firmware, unzip it and take the unzipped .bin file and copy it to the root of the micro-SD that is supplied with the drone. Insert the micro-SD card back into the copter, turn it on and wait for about 10 minutes. The drone emits a series of beeps that will inform you as to its status (there are plenty of youtube videos out there giving you step by step instructions on how to install a firmware upgrade). The next part was very tricky however, updating the controller. According to the DJI website, you take your micro-SD card and plug it into the controllers USB port using a Micro-SD to USB dongle (if you don't have one you can find them online or at places like best buy very cheaply). Turn on the controller and it should update. I tried this multiple times and the controller would never appear to update. Long story short, with the introduction of the new app, DJI Go, you no longer use this method to update the controller. With the app installed on your phone or tablet, attach your device to the controller with the USB cable as you normally would when flying the drone. Open up the app and you update the controllers firmware through the app itself. It took me ages to figure that out as DJI makes no mention of this new process on their website. Once both the drone and controller are updated with the latest firmware, you are ready to fly.The Battery. The battery itself is fairly large and has a nice feature on the back whereby you can press a button and get an indicator of the remaining charge (split into quarters) to give you a quick idea of how much flight time you have left. A full battery charge takes around 45 minutes (longer if you don't have the Pro version as the Pro version comes with an increased charger) and according to specs should be good for around 20-23 minutes of flight time (which is fairly accurate depending on how strong the wind is when you are flying and how much the drone has to work to keep itself stable). The Camera. The DJI Phantom 3 Pro comes with an attached 4K camera which can also take 12 megapixel stills. The cameras sensor is like one you would find on older small compact cameras (a 1/2.3 size sensor made by Sony). Since it is a Sony sensor, it has excellent dynamic range and works well in low light (given the cameras f1.8 lens). Should you shoot RAW images with your Phantom (an option in the DJI Go app) then you can pull the shadows quite a bit if you need to.It has a range of modes which you operate through the downloadable app so that you can change frame rate, video resolution, camera single shot or multi-shot, aperture etc. Note that by default the video mode is set to PAL (the British standard) so the first thing you would want to do is to change that to NTSC (American standard). The camera itself is mounted on a 3 axis gimble that works extremely well and will keep the camera steady at all times during flight. I was very impressed with this as it allows for very smooth videos. Moving the camera up and down using the control wheel on the base controller is also very smooth and not in the least jerky.Video is recorded in .mp4 format (H264 codec). Still images are nice and clear and movies are exceptional with the 4K recording (although you will need an appropriate computer to be able to play them back. My 3 year old Dell system can't handle 4K video however my newer MSI laptop will).Videos are also recorded directly on to your phone/tablet whilst flying (although at a reduced 720p) so that you can instantly upload your flight to youtube, facebook or wherever. The App.The DJI Go app is compatible with certain Android and IOS devices. Make sure you go to the DJI website and check compatibility with your device if you are running Android. I use my Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus phone and it works well. The app supplies you with a cornucopia of information. Everything from how high the drone is relative to its take off altitude, how far it is, battery state and flight time remaining, a zoomable small google maps so that you know exactly where you are flying and can set way points or points of interest, auto take-off and return to home/landing buttons etc. etc. Most of the display is taken up with a video feed so that you can see exactly what the camera on the drone is looking at. With DJI's lightbridge technology, there is no gap between what the camera is seeing and what you are looking at on your screen which is impressive. In the app you can also set a whole host of options for the drone and the camera. The handset. The handset is large, sturdy and feels nice to the touch. Easily holdable for the complete duration of a flight. There is an adjustable plate to hold your phone/tablet that will accommodate devices up to the size of an iPad Air 2 and down to a small phone. On the top sides of the controller you will find two control wheels, one on either side. The left hand control wheel controls the camera (up and down only) and the right hand wheel controls various camera settings. You will also find buttons for starting/stopping video recording, taking a shot with the camera, playback and a switch that changes the mode the drone operates in (GPS mode, advanced flight and special function mode which you use to enable things like setting and flying way points). On the back of the controller, within easy and comfortable reach are two programmable buttons that you can assign different functions through the DJI Go app.The front of the controller is taken up by your flight sticks, the power button and a return to home button (GPS Flight Mode).DJI have recently updated their specs on their website for the Phantom 3 Pro and are now stating that it has a range of up to 3.1 miles (5km) which is the same as the newly announced Phantom 4.Flight.Flying the drone is extremely easy. Much easier infact than toy drones due in most part to its auto hover feature. When you get to your destination where you wish to fly the drone, the first thing you want to do is to align the GPS. This is simply a matter of holding the drone out infront of you about 3 feet or higher above the ground and turning around in a circle. Then hold the drone with the camera facing down and turn around in a full circle again. The instructions actually pop up in the app and tell you what to do and lets you know when you have turned in a full circle. Once you have aligned the drone you will see a "Safe to Fly" message appear at the top of the app.One of the features that the DJI Phantom has is that it will automatically return to base should you fly it out of range or the drone loses contact with the handset. This only works in GPS mode. The Phantom 3 also has a bunch of built in sensors so that you can fly the drone indoors and it will keep stable even if you cannot get a GPS signal. There is so much to say and cover about the DJI Phantom 3 pro as it has so many wonderful features that this review would essentially turn in to a mini novel. There is one thing to note however. I took my DJI up to a remote area to fly over some waterfalls and no matter what I tried I could not get my phone to display the camera view. The drone itself worked but I could not record any video or pictures. I was initially worried that my Phantom Pro was broken so took it to another waterfall and the same thing happened. I then noticed that I didn't have a phone signal. I moved to a location where I received a strong phone signal (4g) and low and behold, I was now receiving a camera stream. It therefore appears that DJI's Lightbridge technology somehow relies on your phone/device having a good signal and doesn't work completely through the controller.Overall.So overall this is professional drone with an excellent stabilized camera in it. The app is first class and control is very easy.Compared to Muvi X-Drone, it is night and day in both features and operation and I would highly recommend the DJI Phantom 3 Pro to anybody. Now that DJI have announced the Phantom 4, you can get good deals on the Phantom 3 Pro.

Triumph Deluxe!
DJI has done it. I've been eyeballing quadcopters since the early phantoms and finally took the plunge with the DJI Phantom 3 Pro. It's easy to fly, and doing so has become a favorite activity for my son (age 10) and I. He flies it like a pro, with marked improvement each time he pilots it. I created a playlist on YouTube with instructional and review videos, and we watched them before our first flight (**See Below). We are having a lot of fun spending time together, learning and looking at the world from such unique perspectives. The aircraft itself is extremely well built, though it is evident upon inspection that the weak part of this setup (and by weak I mean 'delicate'), is the camera and gimbal. As such, I have added two items (see list below), the Gimbal Saver and the Gimbal Guard to protect this incredible unit. I have also added propeller guards to protect the props themselves, but more importantly...people, houses, animals, etc. The power of these new motors combined with the construction of the props will result in horrific lacerations to flesh and considerable damage to wood or other soft structures. Other items to consider are a USB sync cable (1 foot), a sun visor for your remote control interface device (not listed below), a high speed (class 10, 95MB/smicroSDHC flash card, such as the Lexar noted below (32GB should suffice in most cases). I recommend getting a UHS-1/U3 flash card with 95MB/s Read. USB 3.0 wouldn't hurt if your PC or Mac is setup for it. One final item I have yet to install and test on the Phantom 3 is the camera filter set designed for the Phantom 3. There is a polarizer, an ND-2 and an ND-3 lens for different lighting conditions. Reviews are mixed on this product, but as my flight skills develop, I want the flexibility to enhance my videography and photography results based on weather, light and location conditions.Gimbal Saver for DJI Phantom 3 Ribbon Cable Protection Fix by RC KillerSKYREAT Gimbal Guard for DJI Phantom 3 -Protects Gimbal & CameraPerfect Size for DJI Inspire 1& Phantom 3 Remote Control with iPad Air / Mini, Cambond® 1feet / 0.3Meters Element Series 8-pin USB SYNC Cable Charger Cord ( Solid Gold / 1 Feet )Genuine DJI Phantom 3 Prop Guard Part #2 Propeller Guards For Professional AdvancedLexar High-Performance MicroSDHC 633x 32GB UHS-I/U3 (Up to 95MB/s Read) w/USB 3.0 Reader Flash Memory Card LSDMI32GBBNL633RPolarPro DJI Phantom 3 Filter 3-PackAs a purely theoretical exercise I wrote a web scraper program in Python and collected a ton of web data suggesting more problems interfacing the DJI GO app with Android devices (lockups being chief among the complaints after customer service) than iOS. I normally use Android tablets, and prefer them, but agree that they are more prone to fits than iOS devices. I just can't stomach the idea of this high $$ technology dropping 400 feet out of the sky because Android pharted. As such, an iPad Mini 2 or 3 is on my list, as the larger screen size would make flying via the DJI Go app even more enjoyable, though the iPhone 6 plus is good enough for now. In my experience, which is albeit somewhat limited, iOS simply works with the phantom and the DJI GO app. I have experienced no loss of connection to the aircraft, crazy flight or calibration issues. 720p video is transmitted from the Phantom flawlessly to the iPhone 6 plus via the RC. A careful balance between line of sight and app-based flight/camera control is needed. While basic flight control is a breeze, utilizing this highly agile and advanced flying camera to produce professional quality video and images will take some time and practice. The 4K video is simply just too much for my laptops' dual-core Intel processor, and playback is jerky when using an i5 quad core Mac. In retrospect, the Phantom 3 advanced with 1080p video recording would have been sufficient...most of the world is not ready for 4K yet, and won't be for a few years. There are multiple video recording quality modes to choose from, and I find that recording at 1080p is producing a video quality that I can barely appreciate on my current monitors. It goes without saying that the quality is excellent. Previous Phantom cameras had a much more noticeable fisheye effect. The Phantom 3 Pro does not share that history. The remote control (RC) works flawlessly and is a delight with respect to interfacing with my iPhone 6 plus. The controls are well laid out and the handset feels well made. It takes only a few test runs at low altitudes to get the feel for flying. For the iPhone interface, I'm using the iOS DJI Go app, and the firmware version as of 08/21/2015 works flawlessly. I am a cautious new pilot. After two weeks and maybe six flights I've only been able to bring myself to fly at a max altitude of 200 feet. Without question, it can go much higher (know the max altitude allowed and don't exceed it). I have not fully tested the range of the device, but will be gradually extending my flights. I recommend finding a good location, away from airports, buildings, trees, power lines, metal structures, people and animals. A large, wide open space without significant iron deposits is ideal. People and animals will be drawn to you. Sometimes they will be concerned about the video recording capability of the aircraft. But in most cases they have never seen one up close and are simply curious. My interest in drones has increased dramatically, and while enjoying the personal/hobby use of the Phantom, I must admit that I have investigated the commercial possibilities. Getting an FAA exemption to use the DJI Phantom (some 80% of drones having received FAA exemptions for commercial use have been DJI Phantoms) or other drone is no easy endeavor. Nevertheless, once you've piloted one of these it is difficult to deny that early movers in the drone industry will be well-positioned in future labor markets. There are other choices out there. Yuneec comes to mind, and I will be watching them closely. Overall though I have to recommend the DJI Phantom 3 Pro 4K. I have not needed DJI customer service, and I hope I never do. There are a lot of complaints about DJI's customer engagement and repair times. As they scale up their company to meet production and R&D goals, they will have to invest some time and resources into building their customer services. They have nailed the technology, and the rest will come with time.Buy and enjoy!DJI Phantom 3 Video Playlist**https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLJ0BR0YK1d9S8MW5OEVFduHeWqRId6ZFq

I love this Phantom 3 Professional drone from DJI
The DJI Phantom 3 Professional drone works great. I love it. Firmware had to be updated on batteries, receiver and transmitter a couple of times now, but if you follow the instructions in the online manual from DJI it was very easy. Lots of instructional videos from DJI and from You Tube from other individuals that have purchased the Phantom 3 Professional. Very easy to fly. I have nothing but great things to say about this product. Takes great videos at 4K resolution. Very user friendly. I have 3 batteries now thinking about buying another battery to extend my flying time.
