Built Like A Tank
I was looking for something to up on my new shed with double doors. Most of the lock systems are just a hasp held with cheezy wood screws. This one was designed to put six 5/16 carriage bolts through a van door or 2x4 on a barn/shed etc. All the hardware and lock combined weigh an impressive 3.75lbs. The bolts are backed with 2 steel plates whose holes are cut square as are the nuts. The bolts are not the cheezy shiny Chinese ones you seen everywhere. The bolts are not threaded all the way up but more like a 5/16 machine bolt with a carriage head. The box is listed as hardened steel, appears tough and looks very difficult to get any leverage on to pry. Looks nice too. It goes well with my white shed trim on the doors. They have to get through all that steel just to get to the Abus Diskus 26/70 padlock inside. See pic with older 20/70 lock. Has a nice lock cover that swivels out of the way for the key. The one I got is right handed, meaning the lock etc swings open with the right door, which is perfect for my application. Nothing cheap on this.It appears Abus is stopping production on these so prices are all over from $159 to the absolute steal price of $34 here on Amazon. The Abus 26/70 lock inside it goes for $31 on Amazon so the rest of all the hardware is pretty much free. A heavy duty hasp is at least $25 alone and still designed for wood screws. The ones with carriage bolts are $40 plus. The only challenge is this is a wide lock system. From the outside bolt spread is about 7 1/4 inch so your going to need a little more than two 2x4's width to mount it. You also have to upgrade your shed/barn door hinges to carriage bolts which is no big deal. I figured why not for half the price of a good hasp and Diskus lock which will not be as effective?

Keys are easy to twist off into the lock
The lock and housing are great but the keys are proprietary. The only place I was able to find them was ABUS. You can order blanks from eBay and several other vendors online but unless you have a key machine or locksmith, it'll be hard to get a retailer to cut the blank for you. ABUS has you register your lock and key code so they can send you a replacement key but the cost is $13 per key which I thought was pricey.
