Never to old to learn
I thought I knew a lot for 72, but you taught me a thing or two.I don’t hunt anymore, but shoot distance two or three times a week for accuracy, with several bolt rifles. Needed a break and picked up a percussion from a West Virginia maker. I have a 30 year old Hawken but this rifle is a cat with a different tail. 48 inch 50 cal to be exact. I have to stand on a bench to load. Did your book in one sitting but will for sure have to review it often.

Start with this one.
Do you need the basics? Do you want it concentrated and quick, with just a little history? Try this book and get the information to get you started and keep you going. Loading, cleaning, sighting, and more. The chapters give the info they list in the contents. The writing is clear and direct. The author expects a basic understanding of firearms, but fills in well after that. Read this book first, then find those other books that lean to your individual interests. Recommended.

The Basics Explained
Ol' Hovey's been doing what he does for a long tume-I recommend this series if you're just getting into the realm of black powder. His book on Crossbow Hunting I also highly recommend.
