Great Modern Masters Product! Don't skip this priming step.
I have been a professional painter and these Modern Masters products are expensive, but high quality. They are Rust-oleum water-based products that clean up with soap & warm water. I was refinishing some rusted iron flower pots (picture 1). I prepped the surface by wire brushing and sanding, rinsed off with the hose and let dry (picture 3). This primer is thick and needs to be shook or stirred before applying. When applying you may need 2 thin coats vs 1 thick coat. If you are priming detailed scroll work like on these flower pots, be careful not to fill in the relief with the thick paint. So go back over any grooves in the surface with a dry brush to get out excess primer or you will lose the detail on your surface.(Picture 2). The primer has excellent coverage and the Modern Masters Paint adhears very well to it. (see more review and pictures on my Modern Masters Paint review). My only criticisim is that they need to make the products available in a quart size as the gallon is expensive and way more material that most people will need for a project and the bottle is too small. However, this excess primer can serve as a good general metal primer for other projects

The Modern Master Metal Effects system is pretty cool. My project used the rust- and it certainly came out looking like rust. While you can certainly diy a similar finish, this system takes the guesswork out of it. Based on some of the other reviews here, I feel I should mention that this primer is one part of the Metal Effects system. After applying this primer, you will need to: 1) Apply the appropriate base coat, 2) Apply the appropriate activator, and 3) Apply the appropriate sealer. The entire "system" can get pricey, but I am completely satisfied with the outcome. If you can apply paint, you will have no problem with this.

Very dark, but it works!
Please see my review of the copper paint that goes with this primer. I'm glad I bought the whole system, but this primer is super dark, so don't be surprised. The copper paint definitely brightens it up, though. I was putting it on a freshly floated ceiling, and next will be putting it on a wooden topped kitchen island.

Great Primer
This is one of the best primers I have used...on wood toped with the Masters Copper...on metal topped with Masters Copper and blue patina. For patina follow instructions and coat twice. Great results!

Awesome product!
The primer is a brown very close to the copper color.Make sure to spray the oxodizer almost immediately and type of skin (even 30 seconds) lowers the amount of patina dramatically.1st pic is primerFollowing pics are after oxidizer.Drawer faces were sat on their back and the oxidizer was sparyed on and left.Cabinet faces were misted with a spray bottle while very fresh and wet while standing.

gave the bus some more character and looks like melting copper now
worked well, used a sprayer but it got too hot out and the primer splattered but oh well, gave the bus some more character and looks like melting copper now.

This is a great primer that is user friendly
This is a great primer that is user friendly. My team found that there is working time to allow for a professional application and after the application has been applied this product sets up and drys to allow some handling of the items as well.

Description says white, but its red oxide colored
It is not White! The description says white, but its red oxide colored, only reason I bought it was it said it was white.
