The best spigot EVER!
The best spigot EVER! I am getting one for all my crocks. I got this one to go on myNew Wave Enviro Porelain Dispenser with Wood stand! It works amazingly well and was super easy to install!you can open the spigot to control the flow! It is well made and sturdy. I love that I can take it off easily when I put my crock through the dish washer! (I am not sure if I have too. I just like hand washing the spigot.)I am not sure how it holds up with kombucha. I have not personally used it for that yet. I only really read one review on that topic, where someone was not favorable with this spigot and kombucha. I am thinking that I am going to ask around and try it. I am not one to have plastics around. I will try to come back and update in the new year. I will post photos then.It works great with spring water! <3

Just what I needed
For one of those nice stainless steel water dispensers, the reviews warned me that the spigots leak. Well, that turned out to be very true. Instead of returning the dispenser, which I knew I would like, I ordered this. It works perfectly and I'm completely satisfied.

Replacement for Kombucha Glass Jar
I am so pleased with this spigot! It took me awhile to find the right size spigot to replace the one on my two gallon glass jar I make kombucha in. I bought the jar from one of the big box stores. The spigot on it had a horrendous flow rate. It took me forever to fill my bottles from the spigot whenever a batch was done. And that at the start. After a while the valve clogged up from the fibrous strands from the SCOBY. After a few batches I got fed up enough to take the old spigot apart with the intention of dremmelling out the valve to get a better flow. What I found was that the valve was basically two flat plates with slits in it. They rotate against each other to open. The opening is very small (no wonder it clogged so easily) and there was no way to modify it without causing it to leak. And did I say whole thing was made of some type of plastic which I'm sure was not BPA free? That's where this spigot comes in. There are plenty of 3/4 in. (19mm) replacement spigots out there, but this is the only one I could find that was 5/8 in (~16mm), which is the size I needed for my jar. I even went to a couple of hardware stores looking for parts I could modify or put together for my purposes, but I couldn't find anything I would trust with the acidity of kombucha. The price was a little more than I wanted to pay, but since it was the only one I could find that was the right size and it is stainless steel, I went ahead and ordered it from Amazon.I ordered the valve on the weekend and it arrived on Tuesday. It came in a bubble envelope. The spigot itself was wrapped with foam in a small box, so it was well protected. The exterior parts are all stainless steel. The finish is much nicer than I expected. Looking down inside from the back, I could see that the valve was a nice ball valve that FULLY opens, and not the funky plate type the other one had. The valve opening looked to be at least 1/4 in. (~6mm) wide. I don't recall exactly, but I think the ball valve inside was brass, but not totally certain on that point. I installed it before I took a second look to verify this. The installation was as easy as removing the old spigot and putting this one on. It has two silicon washers backed by stainless steel housings shaped to match the shape of the washers. They compressed the silicon washers well enough to get a good seal at just finger tightness, but I went ahead and gave it two more turns with a wrench to make sure. The silicon washers did not deform enough to cause me any worry that I had messed up the seal. Then I filled my glass jar half way. There were no leaks at all. Then I opened the valve all the way. The flow rate was really nice. Much better than the stock spigot. Also, controlling the flow rate was easy. It backs down nicely so you can get the flow rate just right for you. The ball valve should not clog with the stingy stuff from kombucha or lemonade or whatever you should flow through it, and even if it did it should be a breeze to clean. The spigot has a nice solid feel to it with a slight detent that happens when it moves into the fully open position. This is a nice touch. This is the only five star rating I've ever given. And that is because the item exceeded my expectations, even at twice the price of other replacement spigots.
